shogo 0 #1 October 7, 2009 Looks promising for skydivers. What do you guys think? Buffer/shutter speed as good as Rebels (I am talking about the Panasonic ones. GF-1, GH-1 etc… Not Olympus.). Reviews on image qualities are actually pretty good. Stereo-plug shutter release. Tiny fixed lenses. 16mm fisheye, 28mm and 34mm. (35mm system equivalent.) I just ordered 7d because I thought full frames are still too expensive. But 7d weighs about same as 5d MkII... Kinda defeats purpose. http://www.dpreview.com/previews/PanasonicGF1/ http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicdmcgh1/ http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20090902_312633.html
dragon2 2 #2 October 8, 2009 The thing is, canon and nikon just WORK for skydiving. If you're gonna try something else, you're a test dummy. You may find that they're not gonna last as long (example some Panasonic 3ccd video cameras), have problems with image stabilisation (you do not want IS on the sensor in general and definitely not for skydiving which is what most other brands offer), have other moving parts (example the Fuji PRO series fullframe still cameras), annoying/deal breaker stuff like that, and you won't be able to borrow someone elses battery/charger/lens/flash etc. So what you want are reviews from skydivers, not just dpreview etc. ciel bleu, Saskia
shogo 0 #3 October 8, 2009 Why do you think I am asking here? I know Canon works for skydiving. Your response is meaningless.

velocityphoto 0 #5 October 8, 2009 He just told you you are a test dummy. If you want to try it go ahead but don't say he didn't warn you. :) You will get better responses from the forum by filling out your profile, and not eluding it. If you have no info people tend not to give any response to your questions at all. A friend will bail you out of jail , a REAL friend will be sitting next to you in the cell slapping your hand saying "DUDE THAT WAS AWSUM " ................ pilotdave 0 #7 October 8, 2009 She said "So what you want are reviews from skydivers, not just dpreview etc." That's what he came here for. It really was a pointless response. No offense to dragon2. Dave
shogo 0 #8 October 8, 2009 Okay. I just wanted to know if someone has jumped them yet, or not. Looks like the answer is No. That’s fine. I now know I need to test jump it myself if I want to use it for jumping. But don’t you think it’s a neat concept? We don’t really need an optical viewfinder with a glass prism that weights so much. I can live with manual focus (I don’t know about others on this, because people seem to use auto-focus lately). Like the rangefinder cameras, wide angle lens are so tiny. I don’t know why being not constricted with the length of mirror box makes it easier to design compact wide angle lenses (I don’t know much about designing optics.). But small/light is good for us. By the way, “*your one warning.” make it sound like I said something nasty. You deleted 3 words. I know the phrase was sarcastic. I meant to be. I have seen much more improper languages and comments here...
DSE 5 #9 October 8, 2009 Your sarcasm was a personal attack. Your warning would have been private if you accepted PMs. We'll all look forward to your results of jumping the camera.

What we'll need: -remote shutter release -lens availability (wide angle primes would be nice) >wide angle lens are so tiny. In general the better ones aren't.
