pilotsR4pimps 0 #1 October 27, 2009 Why the hell would they take out the effects option in iMovie 08? It is in the older versions. Bummer. I cannot add the slow motion (or any speed effects) exit shot after the normal one. Is Final Cut Express 4 worth it to get for the extra effects, like adjusting clip speed (slow motion, fast motion, etc). I found it on eBay for $100!!!! PharmerPhil 0 #3 October 27, 2009 I use FCS exclusively, and have never really used any version of iMovie. But I did look at it and IMHO it looks kinda toy-like. FCE at least operates like a real NLE app. Maybe it has more than you need for simply doing tandems, but for $100 I'd go for it. It would also make the transition to FCS, or most other pro NLEs real easy.
faulknerwn 38 #4 October 27, 2009 They put everything back in imovie9. That's what we're using for videos now. Its worth the cost of the upgrade.

c10edges 0 #7 October 27, 2009 Imovie 09 HD handles AVCHD and does everything you say you need VERY well for a non professional. I find it very handy for everything i need.
Superfletch 1 #8 October 27, 2009 How are you guys handling sound in iMovie '09? In 6HD I can adjust the sound by moving little handles in the audio waveform... it was VERY fast and VERY efficient. In editing a tandem I would increase the volume of my video track by creating the handles and adjusting the volume up just before the student spoke and then back down when they were done. I could also lower the volume of the music track this same way if the music were drowning out the students speech. With this technique I could also create a fade for as long as I wanted as well. This doesn't seem possible in iMovie any more and if it is, how are you doing it? Superfletch 1 #9 October 27, 2009 ...also... do any of you guys have links out there to videos you are shooting and editing in iMovie 08/09? ...especially tandem videos? I'd like to see the type of product you're putting out with this software. I'm using 6HD and putting out what I believe to be a fantastic video. I'd like to be able to do the same with '09. I think jumping up to FCE or FCS would add WAY too much time to my workflow. faulknerwn 38 #10 October 28, 2009 For the music I select all and turn the volume to 0. Then turn the 3 "talking clips" volume back up while selecting the click box for "ducking" which will automatically duck the music volume. Its faster for me than doing it with timelines..
