Fastest Memory Stick card for video

I'm looking for the fastest Memory Stick Card on the market. The write speed is not an issues but the download speed to get the files from the card to the computer. Of course the adapter is a big part of this but I'm talking about the card itself. Because all my cards (CF, SD & MS) are Sandisk I would prefer to stay with this brand but I know Lexar is not slow either.

I'm (a bit) confused. At present here in Holland Sandisk has following cards:

- SanDisk Ultra® Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo™
- SanDisk Ultra® II Memory Stick PRO Duo™
- SanDisk Ultra® II Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo™
- SanDisk Extreme® III Memory Stick PRO Duo™
- SanDisk Extreme® III Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo™
- SanDisk Video HD™ Memory Stick PRO Duo™

Not all cards are listed on the Dutch and/or US website or visa versa but all these cards are listed for 30 MB/s write/read. There's a significant price difference though and I guess the Extreme III should be faster for double the price but seen the specs it's not.

Does any of you cameraflyers have first hand experience and can tell me if there's indeed a (read) speed difference explaining the price?

I have a mix of most of these...
The ProSG cards are faster; but can't say I notice a WHOPPING difference. Never have tried to time them.
SG cards allegedly provide 30Mbps read/write
Non-SG provide 18Mbps read/write.
In some cases in the USA, Sandisk markets the same cards with different names ie; I believe the Video HD card is the same as the UltraII ProHG.

Is there much difference in either quality of shot or in how fast the image writes to the card?

I'm talking about something like the Canon G10 or G11.

This topic is about Memory Sticks (MS cards), which is the Sony type card. But the answer to your question (which SD or CF card to buy) is the same as for these videocameras: the write speed of the card isn't very important as most cameras will not come close to maxing any recent model card out. The speed comes into play when you read off the card to your pc, if you buy a fast card you'll also need a fast cardreader to take advantage of the speed. In general a sandisk ultra2 type card should be plenty fast for a point and shoot, for most users and is the minimum I'd buy, personally, but you will likely also be very happy with a regular (not ultra/extreme) sandisk card.

It's not gonna matter for something like a G10. Virtually any card you find on the shelf will be fine for stills.
Even in the case of *most* of the various flash mem cards will be fine for the highly compressed video of AVCHD and MPEG2SD.

Writing yes, but reading (copying from card to PC) will make a lot of difference in time. Easily a factor 3 to 6. Meaning instead of downloading a card for 6 min you can do it in one minute with a fast card. When there's not so much time in between jumps and you want to review ASAP fast cards are a big priority.

Agreed. I was responding to Sandy's question for still cameras and acquisition speed.
Yes, for Xfer from camera/raw media to HDD, faster cards make a difference.
When USB3 hits, it'll be a bygone thought...
