great point, forgot that not everyone is on an intel machine.
No non-intel machine will support AVCHD.

Yeah, I hope there is an easy solution to this. i have tried installing the disk that comes with the cx100 and that doesn't work either.

no issues with my macbook and cx100 using premiere pro or final cut

You need to hook up you cx100 with a USB cable and then open the camera and press the "connect by USB button " on the camcorders preferences before Imovie will recognize the files .
