Choosing a canopy

Recommended Posts

Currently, I am borrowing a Viper 135 and I'm thinking I'm going to buy it. I love everything about the canopy.

The problem is I continue to have people tell me that I should go with a canopy that has a company that is still around (such as PD). What is everyone's opinion about this because I'm just not sure what to do? Thanks!!

As long as you have a competent Master Rigger around to work with, and s/he's willing to do stuff like relines from scratch, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to go with an orphaned piece of equipment.

I think the only major concern I'd have going in to the deal is finding line specs for the canopy. I'd do this first, before you buy it. With the specs, you can build a new lineset...something you'll need before too long anyway. Other than that, it's just patch and repair for the material portion of the wing...no biggie there.

"...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward.
For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

the viper is a kick ass canopy. I know as we made it. It was privately labeled for a distributor that is no longer around but rest assured the manufacturer definately is.

Th viper is the predecessor to the cobalt canopy and we still fully support them with repairs and line sets.
