Sony HDR-CX105 conversion lens setting

Does anyone have more detailed knowledge on what the conversion lens -setting really does? The handbook just states When using a conversion lens (sold separately), use this function to record using the optimum compensation for camera shake and focus for each lens.

So does this setting only apply if steadyshot and/or autofocus settings are active?

it optimizes the image processing on the outer edges of the sensor. I believe it functions regardless of whether auto focus and/or steady shot are active. The only real way to know would be to shoot a rez chart while using the lens and bouncing it around in each mode.
