I3uller 0 #1 October 22, 2010 I might need a little bit more subject separation but I don't see any other problems with jumping this setup. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1359/5105808500_491e851101_z.jpg
PhreeZone 20 #2 October 22, 2010 I'd get a snoot for that flash to control it a bit more.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
I3uller 0 #3 October 22, 2010 QuoteI'd get a snoot for that flash to control it a bit more. Good idea. Luckily it's a 580 EXII so it has about a 190 guide number. With a snoot or maybe even a grid it should have enough power to reach the subject.
BMFin 0 #4 October 22, 2010 Put a gyro on it and shoot it hand held through the view finder. Have seen it done and it works.
jtnesbitt 0 #5 October 22, 2010 Looks like it would be a nice setup for shooting people on the ground from freefall "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
Hellis 0 #6 October 23, 2010 If im not mistaking, thats a Canon 70-200, and thats not enough. This image was taken with a Canon 20D camera, a 2x extender and a 100-400 mm lens (at 400 mm). This setup gives me 1280 mm equivalent. And the altitude is ~1500 meters. The image is ~4 MB. http://www.hellis.me/IMG_8576.JPG
Zlew 0 #7 October 23, 2010 I have a 70-200 2.8 IS... and that isn't it. My guess is its an 800 or bigger.

IMGR2 0 #12 October 23, 2010 You don't show your jump numbers. You would need atleast 50 jumps before you put that on your head. And the GoPro is a great addition to this setup.
I3uller 0 #13 October 24, 2010 I just got signed onto solo status last weekend. First solo jump seems reasonable for me to jump a gripped 7D, 580EX II and a 300 F/2.8 L.
DSE 5 #14 October 24, 2010 Gonna be hard to shoot yourself with a 300mm. I'd recommend a Peleng 8mm, but add a pistol grip to the camera with a trigger. Set your audible's first alarm for 1K for best results.
mchamp 1 #15 October 24, 2010 Don't forget to jump a Velo 84 on your next jump or else you won't be cool enough! But on a serious note, have you ever jumped with that body? pbwing 0 #16 October 24, 2010 whoa, whoa.... hold on there dude. that side mount has to go!!! don't you know that's a serious hazard? riser strike will knock that right off!! other than that, I don't see anything of concern. get that sorted out and you're good to go!! I have another 20D body that I actually jump. I've been kind of afraid to jump my 7D as it's my main body and I'm a student at a photography school so I'm using it constantly and don't want to hurt it. However, I'm planning on shooting a short doc on skydiving and want to shoot purely DSLR video so I think I'll be jumping it soon. Sans the grip of course. Tim-O-T 0 #24 February 9, 2011 Setup looks OK, but I would recommend putting a steadycam mount like this between camera and helmet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXUeO3auRZg
