I also know a dropzone that purchased 4 very powerful PC's with i7 and vegas pro, they had ALOT of trouble and with limited after purchase assistnce they failed to get it to work well for them, they went back to useing thier old system.

Third time you've thrown this out there, and I do not believe it.
New Magic Australia (distributor for Sony products in Oz and NZ also say they're unaware of any DZ that purchased "four powerful systems" and they are the helm of support in Oz and NZ, in addition to the Madison and San Antonio support facilities. Further, I've looked at ALL the PA license codes issued to NZ, and there isn't a point source that has purchased four copies of the app.
Therefore, either they don't exist, or they're using pirate-ware and deserve any issues they have.

FIFY;)

I was going to publish the name of the company and was really close to doing so, but I do not want you to go and schmooze them and take away from sales of another software company.

I am not lying about this, you are insinuating that I am, and that sony/vasst is aware of all the problems all the consumers of thier products are having... well they are not.

They have/had 4 i7 computers with vegas installed sitting there doing nothing.

Speed was the issue, they can do over 200 tandems in a day with 70%+ video sales. When you get behind in 150 videos, it gets expensive sending them out... 150 x 3 minutes equals 7.5 hours of labour to pay that was not needed before. Equals and extra staff memebr needed.

I beleive it may have been an issue with 'speed' using mp4 go pro footage. but don't quote me on that.

You should be able to narrow it down if you know the industry...

They may have resolved the issue now for all I know, it was a year ago, but for a company that had alot of money and a IT guy on it full time for a week, they did not end up using it very long at all. They went back to their equally expensive macintosh computers. Time is the biggest factor in an operation like that.

Or they trialled it first... or you got it wrong, they are not in New Zealand... so get you reserch straight and keep yourself off the wild goose chases.

You sure do like throwing accusations out there don't you? Or is it that you don't like being less than perfect?

You think a company would spend over 20k on computers and skimp on a software???:S

I know there are some gaping holes in this story. If the IT person had problems and he was at all worth his salt, he'd go directly to the designer of the software. It sounds like somebody threw up their hands and decided they liked macs better :P

So far I've set up several Vegas/PA systems at various DZs, or I've simply mailed systems out and trained users via telephone. It usually takes a few hours for training, and they're off and running, I'll get a question here or there afterwards, but otherwise the tech support line is pretty quiet.

considering I played no part in editing (thankfully) the story I get is mixed, there was not so much a problem in the end with the softwre working, just with the time it was taking and what was promised.

as i mentioned an extra 3 minutes per video will equate to another staff member needed at such a busy DZ...

This was the problem in the end I beleive, there were problems at first with using the software that were resolved I beleive. but speed is key. the macks were simply faster, not sure what program though.

You use go pro, and vegas, how long from inserting your SD card to having a burned DVD? and how much input is required? can you do multipule projects simultainiously on one computer?

Not to mention that US nor Australian Sony technical support has had a single call from any NZ or Oz dropzone..."gaping holes" is an incredibly generous description.
Funny how the story has (yet again) shifted.

It is your perogative to decide that I am lying, i am not.

If you would care to explain how my story hs changed that would be appreciated, otherwise keep your unprofessional and unwarrented accustions to yourself.

I cannot comment on whether or not the technical team was contacted. All I can say is they had unforseen problems, they appear to have resolved the problems and they decided to drop vegas as it did not suit their needs and did not perform as promised.

I have not changed my story.

It shits me to tears that you utilise you status as a moderator push your own products, while mocking others and accusing them of copying you and your (self proclaimed) awesomeness. You threaten people (including myself) with legal action based on false assumption.

Vegas pro and production assistant are probably very very good products, the reviews are good, that does not make them the best for everyones needs, nor does it make other products any less functional or suitable.

There are many variables. We customize templates and worflows to suit the drop zone's needs. Some DZs want ultimate speed and very little fluff in the videos. Others desire sepcial FX, overlays of their logo at key points, slow-mo sections, personalized messages to the student such as "Happy 50th Birthday Sam!", or other details in every edit. The degree of video complexity desired by the DZO determines amount of input required by the editor. System speed also plays a big part when figuring out complete production time.

Taking these variables into account, HD GoPro footage from SD card to completed DVD takes anywhere from 10 - 16 minutes in my experience.

Yes you can work on multiple projects simultaneously. That's where the real time saving happens. I've found the new 6-core AMD processors make multitasked editing especially smooth.

I was under the impression that it was quite automated, I tried using PA and VP as a demo after watching DSE's you tube presentation on how it works.

I was given the impression that once a PA template is set up then that is it? what input is needed each time you make a video. after the initial setup. do you have to give input to render and again to burn?

When using rxt we simply mark the interview clips, mark the freefall clip and enter the email address. this takes about 1-2 minutes of input for each video and we can queue up several vidoes at once.

It seem it is about the same time for me to produce a dvd from inserting the sd card as you (10-16 minutes) using a quad core i5 processor. but for 8-14 of those minutes I can be doing something else or making the next vid. burning is taken care of by clicking the publish button. this also sends them a link to thier video hosted online.

So how long to make 3 dvd's then? with how much (in time) input?

We can make 3 dvd's and uploads in about 30 minutes with less than 8 minutes input.

I am curious of the difference as the workflow seems quite different.

You must input the student's name, adjust voice track for appropriate areas, create slow-mo sections as desired, and click the green Process button to render. Once it's rendered we use Sony's DVD Architect to burn the DVD. That's another click or two, but it's worth the extra mouse strokes because it provides a custom DVD menu with DZ info, etc as well as the student's video.

From your description it seems as though rxt simply provides another GUI to produce the same results. ie: I click and drag to highlight an area that I don't want to hear (like freefall noise), but you click the clip and click to mark it as voice. It's basically the same thing, except that rxt is apparently limiting you to adjusting the volume of the entire clip, whereas I can specify i/o points more precisely using the timeline.

Upload renders are another variable that makes that answer range quite a bit. I could do quick low quality YouTube renders or high quality renders that can take three times as long... so I'll stick to DVD rendering alone for the answer there. For DVD creation it averages 12 minutes for one, 18 minutes for two, 22 minutes for three. Less than 8 minutes total input is possible, but in either your or my case it would produce a rather bland video without much polish.

Promised by whom? Where? When? They spent 20K and then "dropped it?" Gaping hole indeed, Rhys. That just doesn't wash with anyone.

Find me a post where I've sold my software (Actually Sony's software now). I've merely answered the questions of others.
Further, please find me a post, PM, or email where you've been "threatened with legal action." This statement is an outright lie. You're lying. You've never been threatened with legal action. You've been banned from this (and other) forums.

Agreed. However, you've made it a point to consistently attack the software making claims that you cannot back up nor provide any evidence of use, purchase, technical support issue, or otherwise.
Instead you claim someone (presumably in NZ or Oz) purchased multiple licenses for Vegas/Production Assistant and had massive problems from technical, installation, and/or use. Yet they didn't make a single call to Oz or US technical support, they have never contacted the PA technical support team, there have been no emails from Oz or NZ regarding Vegas/PA tech support, and there are no multiple registration license keys issued to any DZ in NZ or Oz outside of 3 dropzones, all of whom I'm in reasonably regular contact with.

We both know you have a hair up your ass for me whenever you get the opportunity to yank it, you do it. And that's all good, until it comes to the point of unsubstantiated accusations and misrepresentations.

And with that, this thread is locked until someone has something -useful- to add to it.
