skydiveoc 0 #1 June 23, 2011 Thinking of getting a backup editing system that can double as a new laptop. Ive heard of cooling issues with i7 laptops burning out motherboards. Anyone with experience with this?
DSE 5 #2 June 23, 2011 just got a VAIO SSeries (not yet released); I'll share my experience with you in a few days. So far, heat has't been an issue, but it does have a dissipation plate that can be removed, too.

Anyone with experience with this? Nope, it's worked fine for the last year. Just be sure what ever you get has DisplayPort (will run a 2560x1600 monitor) not HDMI (1920x1080) and opt for the largest battery.
JSE 1 #4 June 23, 2011 I've been using a Dell xps 15 w/ an i7 as a general purpose laptop and tandem video editing station. Its been great. Not quite a fast as the guys with top of the line desktops, but that's mostly due to the lower speed of the internal dvd-r drive.
