Sony CX115 taking pics while recording

Hello there,

it is time to upgrade from my 10 years old PC105. I am looking basically at the sony cx115 and cx130.

I know that over all the cx130 is better but I don't quite fancy the idea of a mini spinning hard-drive.

My question: is the cx115 capable of taking pictures while recording a jump with out freeze frame the move itself?

I tested the cx130 and it does have this feature.

cx 130 will have a distorted image in freefall.

since they share the same OIS you can bet it will do the same

I should have had that it was a ground test.

any suggestions? I dont need great quality, i just dont want to jump my canon 400d when i jump with friends.

Yes it does but not when the CX115 is set for max video quality. I'm not sure if this will work with a hypoxic/bite switch though.

How about grabbing still from the vid ?? If you use the PMB software that comes with the camera you can get stills that are easily suitable for web/facebook type use

+1 These are not high res photos, but do pretty damn well. More than good enough for online use. I think the day isn't too far off before these cameras will capture point and shoot quality stills from the video. Not quite there yet, but getting close.

Slap a gopro on in continuous still mode. tiny and you'll get fairly decent quality stills. I mean, unless you want to just screencap stuff, which I think is ever so slightly lower quality.
