Continuous playback of video with GoPro?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,
does the new GoPro2 provide the opportunity to playback videos (via AV-output) continuously? Interested even if only available via "use on your own risk firmware" - in this case I'd be glad about reports, though B|

As to "continuous": Means I go back to the first scene/chapter of the whole (tandem handcam) video, link the GoPro via AV to a DVD-recorder, start "play" and start recording. Just as if the GoPro were a Sony PC camera ;)

Background: Spares me some hassle and I still can use my DVD recorder and do not have to buy a new laptop with video editing and DVD rendering software. :P

Unfortunately no. The cheaper route other than buying a new computer would be using a media player that allows you to continuously play the files in order (AC Ryan, western digital, etc (do your homework first as not sure if these do that but sure some do)). Just connect your gopro to the media player via usb, the rca output to your board and there you go. I don't know if this is a feature going forward on the gopro, but I do know similar ambrella chipset based cameras have the same methodology.

Thanks for your reply, nice work-around - I'll check that (or better have my son who studies IT stuff do it B|)

BTW: The figure next to you on your avatar reminds me of the character "Bernd das Brot" of German KiKa (channel for kids, but Bernd is much more for grown-ups - just as the Simpsons are...) Have a look at the pic attached.

To follow up on what Trunk mentioned, I am pretty sure the AC Ryan Playon!HD2 will indeed play your clips back to back , one after another. I had the chance to play with one and I seem to remember it having that capability. You can even create folders to place the clips in. Now, with that said, I don't know if it will help you achieve your end state or not, which is to edit the clips into a tandem video correct?

If you do decide to purchase a Playon@HD2 do some research as their website and others aren't very clear in some areas on what the difference is between each model and what you get and don't get either feature wise or in the box. For what you are doing the PlayonHD2 with a 1-2 TB hard drive is probably what you will want. I am picking this model up myself to do something a bit different than you but fundamentally the same. The other thing is that they don't sell them in the USA in stores (that I have found) , the one site listed on the AC Ryan website for sales in the USA is actually located in Canada. But seeing you are in Germany, you shouldn't have an issue as they seem more common in Europe than the USA and several stores stock and sell them.

Hi Lou, thanks a lot for your information and the links. I will explore it further but seems it's quite good and suitable for other usage as well, e. g. for recording/streaming videos as an external drive and that sort of thing.
