sdctlc 0 #1 February 24, 2012 Seems like the Roam is missing a few features and was simplified. Who has experience with both? I am looking to get one of them but it seems that the differences will dictate the direction. The Roam has a 170deg field and the HD is only 135deg. I jump my Main vid as a CX100 with a raynox 3032 and I am guessing it would be in between the two but probably closer to the 135 field. The Roam does not do 60fps with a more limited set of settings compared to the HD. I searched and yes there is some info but any experience with each and opinions would be appreciated. DSE 5 #2 February 24, 2012 The ROAM has better color, less features. The difference in the 170 vs 135 is appreciable. A Raynox .3 on a CX is much wider than 135. You'll lose width with the HD vs ROAM. I've got a ROAM I occasionally use, but the CX is still my pref for most things, especially AFF or WS students. matthewcline 0 #3 February 24, 2012 Maybe the next one will have the features and better color. My Contour is pretty much for b-roll and small frame video (placed in "windows" of a larger subject). It get mounted on helmets, weapons, bikes, cars people etc. Over all, as a disposable camera, it is pretty good. We have toyed with shooting a whole spot on it, not letting Post know and then letting Post deal with color, compression etc. But I am gonna veto that idea, as we have 100~ spots to do and I would hate for Post to be mad at me in the first 10~! Matt I've built a preset for premiere and vegas that reduces gamma by .2, pops blue just a tad/reduces yellows. Very happy overall. This works for most AVC and AVCHD sources. mccordia 74 #5 February 25, 2012 I also like the camera thread on the bottom of the ROAM. I actually use it a lot on my normal camerahelmet, when i cant be bothered to bring my CX100 on a trip with all the charging cables/lens etc. For sure qualitywise not the best compared to a 'real' camera or DSLR. But Im more than happy with it, especially at the price they are selling it for. Colorwise I also just correct most footage the same way. Always a tad of extra blue and lesser yellow/reds.JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
sdctlc 0 #6 February 25, 2012 Thanks for the replies, I bought a ROAM from Trunk today and will try it out next week. I wanted to play around more with Stills but not wear my dual camera helmet. Hopefully this will allow me to grab "good" video for looking at and playing with. I will slap on the CX100 when I need a better vid. Just want to keep some weight off my neck... We will see how it goes and look for some pics and impressions later.... Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
Zymurdoo 0 #7 February 26, 2012 An issue I didn't realize until I purchased a ROAM, the battery is non replaceable. When it quits taking a charge it is basically disposable as I understand it. Maybe they will offer a battery replacement in the future but I am sure that waterproofness will be compromised.Blue Skies, Soft Docks and Happy Landings! Hellis 0 #8 February 26, 2012 That is one reason why I have not changed to the ROAM from my current 1080. I need to change battery at least once a day while on the DZ.
