DougH 270 #1 May 30, 2012 So has there been any new cameras or developments in this area? I wanted to experiment with a small camera in different mounting locations to get some stills from interesting perspectives. Toe cam, belly cam. GoPro is nice in the sense that you can have it take pictures at a set interval, and it is rather wide, but I don't think the image quality is that great for anything other than FaceBook posts and 4x6 prints."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
Jabeln79 0 #2 May 31, 2012 Canon G12 but you will need a remote switch. Takes great pics I think equivalent to a 16 or 17 MM lens.Blue Skies Joe "Knowledge is the antidote to fear." --- Ralph Waldo Emerson
DougH 270 #3 May 31, 2012 Thanks. BH shows it having a 28mm lense and a cropped sensor. I am guessing that would make it closer to 35mm and not 16 or 17mm. Am I missing something?"The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
BMFin 0 #4 May 31, 2012 I believe the biggest problem is to find good wide angle optics for the compact models. The angles you are looking to shoot (toe cam, belly cam) demands a 8mm (for cropped sensor) or 15mm (for full frame) camera.
DougH 270 #5 May 31, 2012 I think you are right, smallest I am finding is 22mm and a cropped sensor. I suppose I could use a wide angle conversion lens but it would probably bring the quality down to the GoPro range."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
grayhghost 0 #6 May 31, 2012 NEX-7 with 16mm lens and fisheye conversion lens gives pretty good quality, much better than GoPro, less than 5D.
DougH 270 #7 May 31, 2012 NEX-5N looks to be even smaller. I wonder if you could set these up to fire continuous shots. Set and forget it more or less. Maybe I can find one of these in a photo store so I can get an idea of true size."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
grayhghost 0 #8 May 31, 2012 the body is small, the two lenses stacked on top of each other, not so much this is also an option: http://www.amazon.com/Rokinon-FE8M-S-Fisheye-Alpha-Black/dp/B002LU3DLA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338495237&sr=8-
