MichelleJumps 0 #1 June 30, 2012 Im new to video and am attempting to take this very serious. If you have constructive input for me, please shoot straight from the hip. I wear big girl panties so I can take it. Ive been studying a lot of options and although Im confident in my flight ability, I'm still concerned about the inherent dangers of a low profile mounted camera at my skill level: The snag potential, the break-off upon an impact, the distraction....Ive studied it all and Im wondering if a viable option for a non-pro would be to use a goggle cam instead. I wear a Cookie G2 Helmet and although I prefer a full face, Id be open to switching if necessary. I am interested in opinions/advice about using a QUALITY Eyewear Cam for skydive to help eliminate at least SOME of the dangers. If it turns out to be a good choice, Im also interested in advice on which Goggle cams would be the TOP OF THE LINE for this, no expense spared. Please help if you can. If you are against this option Im open to the critique but please specify why so I can clearly understand your opinion. Thanks in advance.
DSE 5 #2 June 30, 2012 you're not going to be able to shoot any kind of a camera through a face shield, so plan on going open face. Pivothead (among others) makes a goggle/sunglass cam that we've experimented with. It does "ok" but not really well. I've yet to see any goggle cam worth a damn, but equally sure it's not too far off.
Divalent 137 #3 June 30, 2012 FWIW, I asked Pivothead whether they were planning to release a wider angle version of their sunglass video camera, and as of a month ago they had no plans to. I guess they view the skydiving market as too small, but that would also include a lot of other recreational/sport activities. There is a thread about Pivothead's product about a month ago, and it has links to some demo videos, one taken during a skydive. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4313527 I like the concept and simplicity of the design, though. They are retailing now for (IIRC) $375.
