rapidly overlapping words in imovie

Recommended Posts

I hope I can describe this well since I can't seem to find an example... I would like to do a sequence with words coming at you from different angles, speeds. ie: one word fades in and out in the middle whilst another is scrolling across the screen, et cetera. I am not sure how to do this other than having lots of overlapping titles, but there must be an easier way??

Happy to use other software than imovie if it's free or not expensive and relatively straightforward.

If you are looking for something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL2IIpNkSKs its called kinetic typography. Its usually best done in a true effects program at allows for layer manipulation like After Effects.

You've started to ask a lot of video questions and based on your questions its looking more likely you need to look into a full editor like Final Cut Pro, Premiere or similar.

Kind of, but much more simple... I've used Premiere Pro and Studio 9 extensively but I'm now usually just doing much more simple stuff and I find imovie / windows live movie maker suits *most* of my needs... Guess I'm cheap... :$:|

ETA - a lot of my questions are also for our intern, who doesn't seem to know a whole lot given she has a degree in web/graphic-design... :S:S

you need two tracks minimum, for a basic effect.
as one ends, the next in the heirarchy becomes visible. You can do this in iMovie, but it'll be a significantly greater amount of work.
The timeline should look like offset-stacked Lego blocks with whatever effect you want on each 'block' of text.
You could also define the sequence you want (words, size, timing, spacing) and have a post-house generate it for you. There are tools that auto-generate a word cloud.

Just downloaded a trial version of Final Cut Pro - it's great to far :)
Thanks for the help - most of the hard work has been taken out now B|
