Here is the demovideo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6CGI3XkAiQ Doesn't look like it has the same video quality like the GoPro 3. Video looks a little bit jittery (probably the digital stabilisation), the dynamic range is not as good as a GoPro. So I don't think this is a GoPro Killer, but maybe a nice alternative for some people who like the formfactor and the GPS feature.
Zlew 0 #2 August 20, 2013 would be interesting to see if the "ski" mode works for skydiving. "Additionally, in Ski Mode, the VIRB Elite is able to recognize the difference between going down the mountain and going up the ski lift. In this setting, VIRB Elite automatically turns on and starts recording when going down the mountain, and then goes into standby mode once on the ski lift. This mode saves battery and memory space, and keeps the user from forgetting to record when going down the mountain. "

Zlew 0 #5 August 21, 2013 Yeah. Wouldn't work for any "workflow", would just be kinda novel.
Scrumpot 1 #6 August 22, 2013 Quotebut that would probably mean you miss the exit... Not so sure. I just read somewhere that the sensitivity of its internals is such that it starts recording when the chair (lift) levels out, not necessarily only just when you begin descending/going down. If that is so, then it may just start recording once the plane levels-off & setting up for/on jumprun. ...Maybe? ...Dunno? But as others have said, might be for at least all the GoPro crowd, currently scrambling and checking "if they're blinking" on jumprun - an interesting option / test-ground for the rest of us to find out.coitus non circum - Moab Stone
DSE 5 #7 August 22, 2013 I just looked at this camera at Bass Pro shop. It's not anything better (and a tad worse) than most of the very cheap cameras out there. On par with Swann... So..it has some sweet features, but the image still blows.
verticalflyer 11 #8 August 23, 2013 I have been waiting for this innovation for so long thank god its here, its so hard to push a single button prior to exit and wait for the red light and then under canopy or on the ground to actually remember to press that button again. Seriously how lazy is this becoming, when they can build a camera with a little innovation that packs for me then that would be nice but trusting it to record on its own and ending up with minutes of 4 ways climbing out is not my thing Dont just talk about it, Do it! BETO74 0 #9 March 29, 2014 DSE. Care to elaborate why do you think is a tad worse than other cheap cameras? does that include the go pro? I thought was a tad better (nothing super extraordinary) specially the elite modelhttp://web.mac.com/ac057a/iWeb/AC057A/H0M3.html
DSE 5 #10 March 30, 2014 I'l retract my original comment, the VIRB I was initially shown was a proto. After having been diving, jumping, sand railing with both the standard and the elite model, I'm impressed, so far. Battery life sucks. Otherwise, it's quite nice. Below is my test rig, complete with Elite
