Zennie 0 #1 January 28, 2002 Now that I've managed to watch the US Nationals tape for freefly, just a few random observations...1. I know Pat Works hates them, but I don't have a big problem with the compulsories. Heck there's only ten moves and it's kind of funny to watch people like the Flyboyz botch a totem. Even funnier to watch Rook doing a spock and then put his free hand on his hip in sort of a "OK, I'm bored." pose. 2. What I would change is how the open routines are done/scored. The top two teams used the same routine for all five of their open jumps. I think the Flyboyz had two. As great as Omar's and Rook's teams' open routines were, it kind of got boring watching them over & over again.Freeflying is all about being creative, and people who come up with multiple routines should be rewarded, even if it means they may not come off as well as someone who focuses on just one open routine. I don't quite know how to structure it, maybe add a "Creativity" scoring category in addition to the "Technical" and "Presentation" categories. If you repeat a previous routine, you'd lose points in the Creativity category.So there would be a bit of strategy... do you do one routine and take hits on Creativity in hopes of maximizing your Technical and Presentation points, or do you do multiple routines to maximize Creativity and maybe lose a bit in the Technical and Presentation categories?3. As amazing as Arizona Freeflight's "Thread the Needle" move was, I really think Rook's team had the better open routine. The rotating accordion and the cartwheel across the arms were amazing moves. They even threw in some standard RW that morphed into a two-way head down at the end of the routine."Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense." rapper4mpi 0 #2 January 28, 2002 I agree with what you say, and since any freeflying competition is still relatively in its infancy, I think we will still see many changes coming. The only thing I want to point out is that Mike Swanson is the senior member of the team, and he was placing his hand on his hip when doing a spock a few years ago.
