Helmet Choice?

Simliar to the rig question, what is your prefered FF helmet and why? After reading the Gath vs. Pro-Tec thread in Gear and Rigging, I started looking around at all the different helmets available and basically got lost. ), since I'm starting to slowly get gear together and thats something that could actually save my ass if I'm involved in a Powerdock while FFing. (Anyways, I need someplace to keep my goggles in flight).
I'm not looking for anything with a camera mount (yet), and I'm not real worried about color/etc since if I don't like the colors available I'll probably just spray paint it/put decals on it.

Hey Dave....I must say that the Bonehead Mindwarp is NOT very comfortable. Laura and I both bought one (for $180 each, or so) and I find that everytime I put it on, it seems to dig into my head. It feels really hard and is just plum uncomfortable. For that kind of feel, you could spend much less.

Any chance you have a DZ with a well stocked gear shop nearby? I drove up to Sebastian to buy an oxygen, but ended up with a Z1 because it fit my head better.

hey dave, here's my.02 cents based on my time spent working in the proshop at spaceland. there is no all around fits all helmet. everybody's head is different. every manufacturers line of helmets fits different. i recommend you go to the proshop at spaceland. last i checked steve had more than a showcase full of helmets.some of the brands he stocks include bonehead, hawkeye, sky systems, parasport italia, and protec. and in the case that, like most people, you are going to get one without trying any on, i recommend getting a bonehead.

I was looking at a Bonehead, but haven't decieded...that's a good idea with the proshop, trying on and stuff...

What Levin said. No one helmet fits everybody's head and face shape.
I like my Aviator and it seems to fit a wide variety of heads and faces well. People with slim faces often like the Nvertigo/Hurricane's but they do not fit well if you have a.. well... not slim face.
Try on as many as you can, buy what fits your head/face best.

My Bonehead mindwarp is Way comfy...so is my bonehead havok.....I just baked em again....and now they fit most excelently.....

I've recently got an FF1 from 2kComposites, and IMHO it's the most comfortable helemet I've ever tried. It's only 99GBP and it's made of kevlar / carbon fibre, fits like a glove, and keeps 2 protracks covered (one each side).
You shouldn't put a knife in the toaster - but you're an adult now !!!

I've owned one of the earlier Bonehead Mindwarps for a few years now, and I have to say I'm very pleased. Very durable, and I've even mounted a camera to it. It holds much better than the Invertigo. If I was in the market for a new helmet, I would look at a new Mindwarp or an Aviator by Arrow Dynamics!

Yea, I too am in the market for a helmet and I think I am leaning towards getting an Aviator. I haven't heard anything bad about those yet. "Let the rabbits wear glasses. . . "

Dave check out skypimp, it's a guy out of San Marcos who makes them. Nick out at Skydive Houston has a FF camera one, and my friend Susan has just a normal FF one. She loves it, very cumfy and both of thier paint jobs are awsome.

I also jump 2k, but a FF3. The FF3 is £200 and contains both an integral cover for your camera and a flat top for stills etc. Steve Swain is a very amicable guy and each helmet is made to fit exactly - so no more buying off the shelf. You wouldn't do it with a jumpsuit, why do it with something that protects your noggin and your video equipment?

What Rob just said. Get one - they're fantastic helmets. They look really small, but fit your head perfectly.
