Freefly suit for light weights

Recommended Posts

I currently in the market for my first freefly suit. I've been looking around on the internet for a suit but I'm not sure which one I should get. I only weight 140 pounds and I'm having a lot of trouble keeping up with other freefliers. Anyone know of a good suit for light weights like me?

With freeflying it is not just the weight, but your whole body position. I myself am only a slightly heavier but used to be one of the fastest flyers on my DZ, because in fact my body is very aerodynamic. (thin, medium lenght, but lightweight, no extra baggage there ;-)

In Europe the trend is to have tight suits, with little drag to both arms, legs and the rest of the body. I even saw the use of spandex in the freefly suits. This means you have to specially fly on your legs and not on your arms. (which is a good thing)
You're problaby best of buying a not to baggy suit.
You could look at http://www.matter-airwear.com/ for some nice suits. But I am sure there are lots of other places where they tailer make suits for you.
However the tighter the suit the more difficult to learn.:P
Just buy several suits for several types of freefly skydives and levels of progression.

Call Firefly in Cali and let them know what you are looking for and the girls there will make it for you. They will also customize the drag on the body size and shape of the jumper. I thought mine had lots of drag till I went HD then I found it was just right.

Or Christene at Merlin will hook you up too. www.merlinsuits.com

i'm also a lightweight (135lbs). me and most of the freefliers in houston jump firefly suits. mine has about 500 jumps and has been washed in the washing machine about 40 times. still holding up great. sherry and shelly are really good people and their customer service is the best. their number is (310) 808-9136. the web address is www.fireflysuits.com

If you look at their Designs, those are their base designs or they will design anything you want. I have the 2 piece TB stribe and love it. My girlfriend has the V stripe and I really liked it too. The the TB looks really sweet imho...

I am also a light-weight... I have a Bomber freefly suit from Flitesuit - it is made from a single layer of ultralight material and is cut to fit pretty trim. Before I got this suit I was always floating on everyone - the suit made a HUGE difference. Of course learning to fly your body is more important than what you're wearing, but if you suck like I do then having the right suit really helps ;-) I'm very happy with my Flitesuit and would highly recommend one to other light jumpers - some of the other manufacturers use several layers for their designs which add a lot of drag (of course you could ask for a single-layer design from any of them).
