Rookeskydiver 0 #1 September 9, 2002 I just went on my first 2-way sit. When we went into our sits, i found myself backsliding like crazy. When i saw the video it looked like i was almost leaning a bit forward. What are some ways i can correct my backsliding problem? blazingcannon 0 #2 September 9, 2002 Try practising on the ground before you go up- Get your back straight, Arms out to the sides or a little back, legs WIDE out to the sides and bent at 90 degrees. - feet under the knees. (watch videos of the big boys in sit, and you'll see that it's actually more "head-up flying" than it is a real sit position) Backslides will be caused by leaning forward, and having feet under the knees, so practise not leaning forward, and getting your legs bent 90degrees. An easy (though not that comfy) way to practise is to straddle something so your feet are off the ground. Try to balance with your arms out to the side.- See how when you lean forward, you have to scrunch your legs to keep balance- kind of like what you're describing that's happening in the air. Now see what happens when you lean back. your legs have to extend down and forward to keep balance. It's pretty much all about finding your centre of balance. I found that practising balance on the ground helped me loads in the air. Hope this helps!"Spread your legs and fly"
ifallout 0 #3 September 13, 2002 I had the same problem for quite a few jumps.. you can't lean forward at all really, unless you want to go backwards, what finally helped me was to try and push forward with my hips and use them for forward and backwards movement trying to keep your back straight the whole time... and don't look down at first look at the horizon I don't know what all can work but what finally worked for me was to just push my hips the way you want to go, and 90 degree angles on everything else... have fun, Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
Kirils 1 #4 September 13, 2002 If the back of your calves catch air you will back slide. I see a lot of flyers compensating for poor leg positioning by putting their arms way behind them. The antagonism puts them into more of a recliner position not a true sit and it requires a lot of effort. As the gurus said before, the limbs need to be at right angles with the feet flat to the ground. Control movements in a good sit position require just small input and effort. A good excercise to assist in perfecting the sit is to try flying Indian style (like Brian G. on the cover of his book) and you might also try just tucking your heels against your butt and flying on your knees. Coming out of these positions into a normal sit helps you learn that almost all the flying is done with whe hips & knees. Safe and fun flying to you!"Slow down! You are too young to be moving that fast!" Old Man Crawfish

huffermoose 0 #7 September 25, 2002 the reason why you are backsliding is tht your chest is forward as your leaning forward which means you catch all that wind on your chest which is what is pushing you backwards remember wherever your hips go is the direction you will travel i.e hips forward you go forwards stick your hip out to the right you side slide try it moose
bobsoutar 0 #8 September 27, 2002 Had exactly the same problem when I started sit flying. Thing that worked for me was a coaching jump by a guy from Babylon who told me that sit-flying is "a very proud position" (not like sitting on a toilet) push your chest out, keep your head upright, your arms wide and slightly bent and your knees wide and down below your hips. Have fun & good luck with it.
