jose 0 #76 October 5, 2003 The only canopy that is in the same design class as far as I know is the Safire2 from Icarus. I have flown both and owned a Safire2 150 for a short period of time. The reason? Too many hard openings and too many 90 and 180 off headers. When the get the trim right its amazing...I had a demo that I jumped quite alot in a short time and NEVER had a bad opening....thats why I got the new Safire2. But the new canopy was a PIECE OF SHIT. I returned it when the 1 month was over after packing it 6 different ways from sunday and having others jump it as well. My guess?....quality control. mouth 0 #77 October 6, 2003 As compatible I mean as far as experience levels. I have no desire to fly a hot shot main. I was looking for a more solid glide ratio that a 9 cell provides and fairly soft openings. While jumping it this weekend I've noticed that the slider does not come down level on both sided even after taiking care to ensure that it was pushed down and quartered evenly. Could that be the possible reason for the turn and subsequent dive? If so how do I fix it? -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. AggieDave 6 #79 October 6, 2003 Is it a brand new Sabre2 or is it a used one that is new to you? If its a used one, make sure that its in trim. If you're having collapsed end cells on every jump, know that collapsed end cells don't always fly straight. Is the PC on your rig the standard size for that rig size according to the rig manufacture? Is it collapsable or a bungee? Is it still in the correct trim? Also, most importantly, have to talked to PD about your problem? They're the ones that know their canopies the best and have probably seen this before. They can tell you how to fix your problems or may have you send the canopy in to them so they can test it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." mouth 0 #80 October 7, 2003 Dave, She is brand new. I had her custom made just to match my stuff. She has less than 50 jumps on her at this point. I would have to assume PD's quality control is good enough to check the line trim on it. I guess my next call should be to PD. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
AggieDave 6 #81 October 7, 2003 QuoteI would have to assume PD's quality control is good enough to check the line trim on it. It is, but sometimes stuff slips through. Todd (my DZO) had to send his Velocity back for them to test it, it was having a similar problem. Eventually they told him that they would build a new one, since I don't think they really figured out why it was doing that, but it was doing that. Goes to show, even when stuff doesn't quite go right, PD stands behind their product and backs it up with good customer service.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." friflaj 0 #82 February 29, 2004 QuoteI've seen and heard about problems with the Sabre 2 openings, have you tried any other compareble designs? I've jumped similar-size Safire2s and Stilettos, and am having 0 problems with those. Surely a Sabre2 should be easier to control than a Stiletto. taz9420 0 #83 February 29, 2004 I love my Sabre 2. The beauty of it is I can trash pack it and it still opens (as long as I'm stable) on heading with no slammers. The end cells closure; just a few toggle pumps and it's pretty much gone. I will miss it when my new Pilot comes in a couple of weeks or so.
mustard 0 #84 February 29, 2004 I have a Sabre2 135 loaded 1:1.1. Now that I've got 500 jumps on it, I have an occasional off-heading opening. But when it was new, I really had to fight with it: off-heading openings, usually 180 to 360, then a dive, sometimes one way, sometimes the other. I tried everything with packing, and found that folding 4 cells inward on each side and opening the center cell, leaving the slider quartered and pulled out slightly more towards the nose helped a whole lot. Now it's simmered down to the point that a seriously off-heading opening is rare and gets my attention. I love the landings and control characteristics. When it goes in for new lines, I hope it won't come back ornery again! *** DJan
