When I said can you stand with a ball?....I meant you not me. I'm not close to that....yet Now the question I have is what if I spend the first 600-1000 FF jumps doing headup does that make me underskilled what if my goal is to be able to fly with a ball headup before I go headdown? Is that not a good idea and if so why not?

John, in a certain special way your question is really funny. Not that I am giggling at you, no sir. just the posing and wording of your question makes me chuckle;).

that is exactly what i did but with headdown flying. i have about 900 headdown jumps in a row over the past three years. maybe 50-60 jumps mixed in there that are either hop n pops, belly dives or bird-man jumps. i know a few others that have taken this same approach with headup and headdown. i feel like i can move around in the air with the ease of a humming bird. however i have just recently began to learn to sit (i did about 50 jumps when i first started freeflying, but that was almost 4 yrs ago). i think my proficiency flying on my head is making learning to sitfly much easier than when i first started freeflying but fact is i can't do it all that well at the moment. but i expect to have it down pretty good in a few months. most of the other area jumpers that have the same number of freefly jumps and learned both body positions fly almost or just as well as i do on their heads. some even better. and unlike me they can sit fly very well. i'm not sure underskilled is a good question but in answer to it i would say yes the approach you suggest (which is the one i took) would make you slightly underskilled when compared to a similar jumper who learned both body positions in the same time frame. you would be slightly overskilled in one area but way underskilled in all the other areas. and in answer to your question about whether i can stand with a ball, i don't know. i think i could if i flew up to it headdown and then transitioned to a stand. it would definetly be more of a work jump versus a relaxed jump on my head. but since i am always ballmaster i can't risk loosing the ball by taking a chance to find out.

:( We are not allowed to use "space balls" here. They like to play that FAR of dropping objects rule.
We said no ball no problem, my freind and I fall fast so living Amish country now gets us "space horseshoes" for free.:)
