garywainwright 0 #1 November 14, 2002 Whether I'm head up or head down I tend to drift towards whatever I look at! Any tips on stopping or going backwards? When I sit fly in my camera suit (with big wings) I don't have any problems but as soon as I lose the wings i'm creeping forwards again.http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
CanEHdian 0 #2 November 14, 2002 Interesting... usually people have a problem with backsliding at first - you're already way ahead of the game if you can move forward! Kidding aside, and sorry for sounding like a broken record, but find a coach and get yourself on video. Your body position needs correcting and it's impossible for anyone here to tell you where the problem is, without seeing what you are doing. One can guess... but I think you'd rather be sure and not waste any time 'getting it together'. A good coach will help you find that all important 'neutral position' quickly. Cheers, CanEHdian Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
Gravityrat4 0 #3 November 14, 2002 Without seeing video of your flying I can't tell you for sure what you are doing but most likely when you are head down you probably have a tendency to almost point at what you are looking at with your head & this causes you to lean forward which will cause you to move forward. While you are in a sit you are probably just leaning back to much. Next time you try it really concentrate on what the wind around your body is doing. Try and feel where the wind is making contact with your body. You should be able to feel whether it is hitting your back or the back of your leg and that will give you a good indication on what is causing the forward movement. I would recommend finding a credible coach at your DZ to go up with you and make sure they have video so you can see your flying style.
Kirils 1 #4 November 15, 2002 Yo! I wish I had your problem when I started freeflying! I have a feeling you are going to make an outstanding freeflyer. Get some coaching soon before you screw up what skills you have already developed!
blueshrew 0 #5 November 21, 2002 I had the exact same problem when I started out, and it was driving me nuts. Along the way I realized that if I could track away on separation, that's the key. Just a mini bump/impulse, the same way I would separate, did the trick. It sounded very weird to everyone who heard it, but it worked. maybe it'll work for you, too. I never had the problem again :)
