Free Fly Tube material?

Recommended Posts

any local fabric store should have rip stop nylon that is generally used for tubes. depending on the size of the tube will determine how much you need... first figure out a pattern and if you can use a measuring tape that will tell you how many yards to buy. just over compensate a bit if its your first one as you will need extra material for mistakes and for the seams...
do a search there is allot of stuff written about making tubes..

what I would figure then is for an 18 foot tube (which is how long mine is) get the widest rip-stop nylon offered (usually 60") and get about 7 yards of it. that will allow an extra 3 feet for mistakes and to roll the seam over itself a few times at the top. it also depends in the thickness/diameter of the tube on which you will want to get, and if you plan on a solid color or having a pattern in it. make sure its either tapered at the top so it will hold its shape better, or one thought is to put upside down pockets in the top to catch air and help it keep its shape.

So they want $239 for there's. What does the material cost? Can't be NEAR that.

These tubes are not your average homebuilt tube. The quality of work is equal to that of a canopy. The manufacturer swears they will last hundreds of jumps and from the looks of the craftmanship, i believe him. Plus he's been building them since they first became popular. They may cost $239 but unless you loose it you'll never need to buy or make another.
