Atmonauti in 1997

Recommended Posts

I've heard and read quite often that Atmonauti is a 'European thing' - interesting to read about this dive done at the Eloy Freefly festival in 1997.

Quote

Among the few remarkable jumps though, there was the "tracking dive" orchestrated by Olav Zipser: after a linked exit rapidly put vertical, everybody let go and faced Olav. He began a headdown tracking with a more and more pronounced back incidence. The group followed him with a forward incidence. With the great vertical speed, incidence led without delay to an oblique trajectory drawing large spirals in the sky according to the pleasure of Olav Zipser, guide of the "trackers" on this occasion.

See attached pic, full article can be read here.

That picture is of a flocking jump.
Atmonauti is a a much sharper angle than this. The picture attached, from the frick fly website clearly depicts the difference between the two. Although I too believe that they were doing this back in 97', that jump was not atmonauti.
Flocking is more head down follow the leader.
Sorry for the correction

To add to this... Olav took a picture during this string of jumps that was used in many many advertisements. You may remember it... A bunch of people wearing the red t-shirts with something nectar written on them, maybe "Ultimate Nectar" (i forget the exact company name)... Also, the same jump footage can be found in one of the chronicles videos, possible under a segment dedicated to flocking (if my memory serves me right). Definitely worth checking out.

Again, I hate to correct, but if we don't, people will think that they're freeflying when the doing rw, and tracking when they're head down. Know what I mean?

Yeah I understand the difference between Atmonauti dive and Flocking dive. I looked at skreamer's pic careful and compared with Atmonauti's angoli pic. I realised it was fish-eye effect on the picture made it looks like Atmonauti dive. Drew probably is right. What do you reckon?

You are right, looked again and you can also notice the the pic was taken at a slight angle, combined with the fish-eye creating the atmonauti 'illusion'.

I stand corrected. :)
