pccoder 0 #1 April 9, 2004 I have been sitting for quite some time, but just today I did a 2 way (with someone I don't nornally jump) and a video guy went too. Well, we never got together, the exit wasn't much better and we fought the whole time standing then sitting, etc. and constantly finding ourselves too far away now matter how hard we tried. Now, I have though all along my sit was fine, I can control up/down left/right direction. But today, after seeing the video and thinking it was the other guy; nope, it was me. I was back sliding the whole time. What a shitty way to end the day knowing that you suck. Oh well, it's time to hit the tunnel again and if I can keep off the wall and stay in the middle; then I am ok to return to the sky. WrongWay 0 #2 April 9, 2004 Are you leaning forward or have your legs tucked under you?? Backsliding is generally pretty easy to correct, it's getting the muscle memory that's the problem. Just work at it dude, nobody starts out rock solid, NOBODY. Kick ass, take names, have fun, be safe, work hard, and post pics when you get it fixed. SkydiveNFlorida 0 #3 April 9, 2004 Don't feel bad. I have about 150 jumps sit-flying and i'm not great by any means. I am just starting to be able to take docks on people, and I am working on my ability to chase. Up until recently, all I was good for was base. So, keep it up, and try to find someone you can do many jumps with. My boyfriend has a lot more jumps than me and so is a lot better, and it helps me greatly that he's there. Buck up, champ! Angela. rocketdog 0 #4 April 10, 2004 hey -- you learned -- that's an improvement in itself. With experience (more sit-flying / tunnel time) you'll get there.... i'm sure you're still better than me ...KeEp YoUr ChIn Up! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com
nbblood 0 #5 April 10, 2004 I can definitely relate...been there, done that. The video and briefing/debriefing jumps will help sort it out. Don't worry, you'll get there. As Angela pointed out it is tremendously helpful to have a more experienced "coach" to help you out. Keep working on it. I think we all start there. pccoder 0 #6 April 10, 2004 Thanks for the pep talks. I jump in Titusville and usually have some really good "help advice" from some great free flyers (Joao Tabor, Fabian, etc.), so if I can take my head out of my ass for just a minute I should be able to get it right. Thanks again. PcCoder.net
Vertifly 0 #7 April 11, 2004 Hey, this stuff takes time to be consistent at man! It only sounds as though each of you may be overcompensating for the relative-position and being within a close proximity. Remember you're dealing with two different skydivers, with two different perspectives, on a 3-D axis. Be careful with what you are doing. Keep eye contact with the person you are flying with throughout the dive. Also, take a look at your partners body position - it will help you determing their vector (direction of movement) and velocity (speed). If you are quickly decisive up there, this can also speed up your anticipation time. 50 seconds and 180mph winds calls for speed-thinking up there; try to improve on this as well as you do more jumps. adamjenner 0 #8 April 11, 2004 dude i can barely even arch right let alone sit. you don't suck. everyone starts out their own way.
flyinchicken 0 #9 April 12, 2004 I had the same problem on my last sit jump. My partner on the jump was chasing me while I was backsliding away. I think I've spent too much time on my head and not enough practicing my sit so I'll be returning to sit jumps till I get the feel of it again. Been hearing a lot of the same things from some of the other people I jump with regularily, some of them have a hell of a lot more jumps than I. I'm sure a few good 2 way sit jumps with someone who has a cam will help you out, much like the tunnel but wayyy more fun. "Diligent observation leads to pure abstraction". lifewithoutanet 0 #12 April 13, 2004 I'm having a bit of the same problem. I felt like I had it and knew what I was doing a couple weekends ago, but this past weekend, I couldn't hold it for longer than a few seconds before corking. The few times I found myself stable in a "sit" it was more of a squat. Don't know what I was doing wrong, but like someone else in this thread said (I think WrongWay), it'll take time to build the muscle memory and get it just right. Head and stand are feeling pretty good (almost said "looking pretty good", but what do I know w/o a camera flyer?). I'm determined to work my sit again and again before I do any more head-downs or stands. Hopefully I won't undo those two in the meantime. Anyway, best of luck to you. Exhilarating when you get it, if only for a few secs, ain't it? -C.
djmarvin 2 #13 April 13, 2004 You are right about the people you have around you to give you advice. The names you list are great resources. I haven't jumped in Titusville since 99 or 2000, I can't count that far back :), but I remember there being several great flyers there. As for any advice I could give you, you've already heard I'm sure. You have some great flyers around. Get some coaching. People can not push this enough. The money you spend on 3 GOOD coach jumps is worth way more than the jumps that money could have bought. I have even heard the comparison of 1 coach jump is worht 5 non coached jumps. Also you going back top the tunnel to learn is a great mindset. Sounds like you are off to a great start! Now for my sorry bit of advice :) One problem I see alot with new and sometimes experienced sit-flyers is they tend to push their arms back to far behind them. This will tend to push your chest out and that causes you to back slide. If you ARE pushing your arms back to drive, try keeping them straight to your side (still out just not pushed behind you) and try leaning on the air. Light input here will get you alot more than you may expect. If you are already doing this then ignore me. Good Luck!
