Andrewnewell 0 #1 April 22, 2004 Surely when on tracking dives we should fly a pre planed base as opposed to just tracking after a "rabbit" or leader? It seems to me that there are to many people content with just chasing a rabbit resulting in a dangerous free for all. Instead of getting a group of people to just track hard and getting every one to focus on the same small area shouldn't we getting every one to fly in a pre planned base on heads level just like any other skydive? When I look at some of the atmonauti dives people do it looks like a much more controlled enviroment, with everyone in a line on heads level. should we apply this method to large tracking jumps? David it's over to you.

It's only a dangerous free for all if the people on the dive don't know/care where their slot should be. Most (successful) tracking dives form a sort of "flying v", the rabbit being the front point. If everyone follows this safe pattern, then it makes breakoff safer, everyone knows where everyone else is, and it looks cool too. It gets dangerous when you have people sinking out , floating up, flying in the middle of the formation, or desperately fighting other people trying to get up to the leader for a dock. A tracking dive can be smooth and simple if everyone just knows where they're supposed to be on the dive and goes there, as opposed to just "catch the rabbit". Andrewnewell 0 #3 April 22, 2004 Yeah I suppose the "rabbit" is just poor terminology, we may aswell just call him the "target"! I think I've just seen too many tracking jumps where the leader's brief is just follow me and switch off.

We did some formation load tracking dives in eloy and they worked out great. The only people driving up the middle to dock on the leader were the AZ training center guys That was fun and safe and they were both 40+ people with several video. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
