ianmdrennan 2 #1 January 17, 2005 Our team is a planning on attending nationals this year. We've never attended before so we were wondering what the format for the intermediate FF teams competition was (# rounds and round types) and what moves are required. If anyone who did intermediate last year or can help us out has any information we'd really appreciate it. Brains 2 #2 January 17, 2005 Hey Ian, i didn't compete in freeflying last year, but we used the same competition manual as you guys. You can find it HERE click on skydivers competition manual and it is a pdf file. It has all the rules, descriptions, dive pool for intermediate and advanced etc. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
ianmdrennan 2 #3 January 17, 2005 So it looks like Intermediates have Speed and Compulsary rounds, correct? No free rounds? These are the only moves?? Seem like they're pretty basic: 6-3.2: RANDOMS INTERMEDIATE A. FF-11. Star 1. Both performers are in a face-down orientation. 2. The performers demonstrate a two-handed, hand-to-hand grip facing each other with each performer’s right hand in a grip with the other performer’s left hand. B. FF-12. Spock 1. One performer is in a head-up orientation, and the other performer is in a head-down orientation with both facing each other. 2. The performer in the head-down orientation takes a single hand grip on the top of the head of the other performer. C. FF-13. Sit Knee Dock 1. Both performers are in a head-up orientation facing each other. 2. One performer performs a two-foot dock on the upper legs of the other performer so that the right foot is on the left upper leg and the left foot is on the right upper leg. D. FF-14. Joker 1. One performer is in a head-up orientation, and the other performer is in a head-down orientation. 2. A single hand-to-hand grip is taken between the two performers. E. FF-15. Sit Hand-to-Foot Grip 1. Both performers are in a head-up orientation. 2. One performer demonstrates a controlled handto- foot grip. F. FF-16. Tracking Hand Grip 1. Both performers are in a tracking orientation with the front of the torso towards the ground and the head pointing in the direction of flight. 2. A single hand-to-hand grip is taken between the two performers. Just want to make sure we're not missing something here. AggieDave 6 #4 January 17, 2005 That looks a hell of a lot like the Collegates dive flow...are you sure you've looked up the right one?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
ianmdrennan 2 #5 January 18, 2005 Yep, positive. It's in the 2nd pdf. If anyone out there actually did the intermediate event, I'd love to make sure we're training for the correct moves and events. Blues, IanPerformance Designs Factory Team
tenfootswoops 0 #6 January 18, 2005 2004: 7 total rounds. 5 free rounds and 2 speed rounds. If I remember right the free rounds were 45 seconds of working time. Do whatever you want. The judging criteria is in the competition manual. The speed rounds were 35 seconds. 3 compulsary moves per speed round as many times as you can. The US competition is based off of the international rules. So, keep your eye open for the 2005 rules. Things may change a lot...ya never know. D.J. ianmdrennan 2 #7 January 18, 2005 Thanks for the info but I was wondering about the free rounds.....is a different routine required for each round? Blues, IanPerformance Designs Factory Team
tenfootswoops 0 #8 January 18, 2005 Quoteis a different routine required for each round? Nope. Do whatever you want but I highly recommend concentrating on just one routine for a couple of reasons. 1) You will get more practice on the same routine leading to a better performance. 2) All your cool moves will be in a single routine. If you had two seperate routines then you'd have to split up the cool moves and add filler stuff. 3) You get absolutely NO extra points for having multiple routines. Speed rounds proved to be VERY important. The calculation of points from the speed round has changed each year. So, again, check for that equation with the 2005 rules. Do not neglect training for the speed round. All this is based on the rules from last year. Again, make sure to check the rules when they come out this year to make sure multiple routines or something whacky isn't introduced. Also, I recommend that you know all the general rules for competition also...like what qualifies for re-jumps and stuff like that. D.J.
tenfootswoops 0 #9 January 18, 2005 Oops...forgot to add that the moves that you pasted to a post earlier are the moves used for the speed rounds only. You can do ANYTHING you want for the free round. Those speed moves have changed each year also. So, expect some different ones. In the meantime, practice speed rounds with all the basic freefly moves. Include some practice with a flat flying point mixed in with the vertical points. D.J. ianmdrennan 2 #10 January 18, 2005 Great, thanks again for all the info. Sounds like we've got quite a season ahead of us See you at nationals! Blues, IanPerformance Designs Factory Team
freeflyn 0 #11 January 19, 2005 I agree with DJ on this, the speed rounds will not win you the competition , but the can destroy your score to the point they can knock you out of the medals. The essential thing is not to bust, so make sure that all grips are very clear on video and the proper grips are taken. Have fun training!
ianmdrennan 2 #12 January 19, 2005 So for the free rounds what kinds of routines are getting done? There's plenty of video of the open category, but we're wondering how complex the intermediate need be? Thanks.
