PhreeZone 20 #1 October 8, 2007 When is it the correct time to have someone do a hybrid if they want to do one? What skills or experience do you look for if someone asks you about doing a hybrid? Do you have mins for experience for the base or hangers? What about stingers? Is there a point where you would not allow someone do be on a hybrid dive no matter their experience level?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
vdschoor 0 #2 October 8, 2007 I usually look at who else is on the hybrid. I don't like bringing a couple of very "young" jumpers on a hybrid, but I wouldn't have any problem bringing someone with 50 jumps or so that's proficient on their belly on a small hybrid (as a base flyer) As far as hangers, stingers.. they should have a decent number of jumps freeflying before they are allowed on in those slots.. But.. this is just my opinion A hybrid can be done safely even with low jump numbers, the skydive just needs to be planned well.
hparrish 0 #3 October 9, 2007 QuoteI wouldn't have any problem bringing someone with 50 jumps or so that's proficient on their belly on a small hybrid (as a base flyer) I think the Belly Flyers on the Hybrid can make or break the jump. I think everyone on the jump should be proficient because you are dealing with different freefall speeds, and folks need to be paying attention to everyone elese if it goes to hell. IE......Stingers can't get over the formation because of the dangers of corking and slower fall rate of formation. A Stinger must be able to fly clean and take a soft dock. Hangers need to be proficient because the RW base is going to pull them up, down, and in all kinds of interesting positions. The hangers not only need to know how to counter these movements but stay on level with their partner across from them. They also need to know when to let go if they cork out, and most importantly never cork up through the center of the formation. I've seen someone almost get decapitated by a hanger corking up through the center of the formation. Belly Base needs to be strong and take some bumps. They also need to counter spins in the formation. My opinion is that if it's a small hybrid attempt such as 3-4 way in total size, low time jumpers can practice with this. But with a larger hybrid lets say 8-12 way, I'd stick with experienced folks in all slot perfect positions and let the low time jumpers hang out on the fringes, with instructions to break off at 6500 feet. skymama 37 #4 October 9, 2007 QuoteI think the Belly Flyers on the Hybrid can make or break the jump. I agree. I was a hanger on a 6 way hybrid earlier this year that broke off into 2 groups and we turned 6 points! The only reason why it worked so well is that we had some very good belly fliers in the base. I think a lot of freefliers make the mistake of just assigning freefliers to take the belly slots instead of going over to the RW people and recruiting them to join the jumps. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

If you can get the belly fliers to come play!!Why is it you can belly fly with the RW guys but they won't come free fly??? Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!! RkyMtnHigh 0 #6 October 12, 2007 I think I was around Jump #60 when I was asked to be part of my first hybrid. All I had to do was be stable on my belly and it turned out great for some guy's 300th *shrug* No Biggie. Later...and MANY TIMES! I've been a *Stinger* on Hybrids and I kinda prefer to *Sit* or *Stand* outside the Hybrid _________________________________________
crotalus01 0 #7 October 18, 2007 Jump 62 was my first hybrid, a 3 way. The other belly flyer had 28 jumps, the hanger had over 2000. Worked out great, even the hanger said he wished we had video it worked out so well. Top speed of 181 MPH and spinning so fast we almost lost our grips. We broke at 5000' and were under canopy by 3000' (or I was at any rate) As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
rnhawley 0 #8 November 1, 2007 My first Hybrid was jump #9. Just off AFF and my two mentors took my on a simple hybrid. I was in the base with a 2000+ jumper. Hanger has approx 500 ff jumps. Awesome experience and the dive went perfect.
hparrish 0 #9 November 1, 2007 My comments reference a larger Hybrid formation - say 6 - 12 Way or bigger. I think it's perfectly reasonable to have lower jump numbers and experience levels on a 3-4 way Hybrid. Thats how we all learn.
