jonnym84 0 #1 September 7, 2003 I'm a new skydiver who will shortly graduate from the AFF program. Next spring I want to buy a new rig for myself but am unsure as to what to get. I need advice on what container, canopy, canopy size, reserve, etc. I should get. I need specifics, like every detail of what would be a good rig for a beginner like myself. I don't really care about price, I'm more into quality and what's right for me. If anybody would like to share any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Jon

Regarding everything, ESPECIALLY CANOPY SIZE, ask your instructors...they know you better than we do. As for my personal (albeit limited) experience, I absolutely LOVE my Javelin Odyssey. Likewise, I am completely enamoured with my Sabre2-170 main. The rig I bought also has a PD176R reserve in it as well as a Cypres-E. (Can you tell I am partial to Performance Designs canopies?) I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
Chrisky 0 #4 September 7, 2003 Well, if you want the rig in spring, you should order now if you want one from Sunpath... IMHO it doesn't make sense to get a new rig right after AFF bcause you're very likely to sell it after like 50-100 jumps. I always propose people to wait like about 30-50 jumps, then they have a better understanding what they expect from their equipment. That said, I just ordered a Wings, jump a Paratec Faqtor 120 and have a Paratec Speed 2000 135 Reserve+Cypres2. All i can say about my canopies is: Paraatec RULES! Oh, and yes, ask your intructor. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
