leroydb 0 #1 September 5, 2002 What is the lowest base jump that you could make with a bird man suit and get suitable results? ie: would 500ft be to low? What is the optimal height? 1000-1500ft?Leroy ..I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw my bath toys were a toaster and a radio...
cpoxon 0 #2 September 5, 2002 I haven't wingsuit BASEd (yet) but BASE 346 recently sent me some of the ProTrack data that went with his video from Kjerag. You can see from the graphs here and here that for the first 8-9 seconds and the first 800 feet or so, the vertical speed is building before it starts to decrease. It's difficult to tell how much forward speed there is without a GPS but it's not going to be as significant as when the lift is being generated and the vertical speed starts to drop. So, in answer to your question, yes, 500ft probably is too low and you need at least a 1000ft to make it "worth it". (Unless you are a crazy, super-tracking Norwegian, maybe...) mccordia 74 #3 September 9, 2002 If you look at the BASE Take It Too The Streets film at the skydivingmovies ftp, you'll see a birdman jumping from the tower(s). His speed doesn't differ that much in the beginning, but he does have way more clearing from the tower straight from the start. His forward motion is much more efficient (or at least the video makes it look that way)JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

mccordia 74 #5 September 9, 2002 Sorry, I can't find it either....don't remember where I initialy found it.. It was a movie by 'Coldsteel' and was named "BASE Take it to the Streets", the filename being something like base_titts.avi or something. I'm trying to find it for you online...JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
cpoxon 0 #6 September 9, 2002 It's not on skydivingmovies.com because the guys at headdown.net don't want their vids distributed elsewhere. This is the movie: Take It To The Streets
