I don't know if this is what you are referring to but I did see JC flying a straight constant cord wing that had a pivot point mount coupled to a belt that the jumper wears. A U shaped bar comes off the leading edge on one side and crosses over to the other side about shoulder width. Steering is done with this kinda like tilting a " boogie board". Since there was actually a picture of him exiting the skyvan on the archive page with this device I don't think I'm spilling any beans on secret wing R&D. skeletor 0 #5 October 13, 2002 the wing has a small recovery chute on it (just like the ones used on sky surfing boards), the pilot ditches the wing before deploying. -rich
maretus 0 #6 October 14, 2002 I don't know if you ment the SkyRay or the proto that guys in Perris have flown but I don't think that the skyray needs to be ditched before deployment. For example see http://www.skyray.de/manual.html. There is a picture with guy clearly flying his canopy with skyray attached to his back so he must have deployed without ditching the wing.http://www.ufufreefly.com
cpoxon 0 #7 October 14, 2002 The last time I saw the Skyray (Vichy 2 years ago), deployment was initiated using a sprung-loaded pilot-chute because of the inability to reach the BOC!
Spy38W 0 #9 October 14, 2002 Interesting, that looks a lot different than the Skyray (attached) that I've seen. Wonder if it is a new design by the same company, or a different company's project -- Hook high, flare on time
SkymonkeyONE 4 #10 October 14, 2002 the image that Craig posted looks like an Apache. You lay on an Apache and it has two handles that sort of jut forward like that . They are made of carbon fiber and in Indianapolis, Indiana. They used to advertise it in Parachutist and Skydiving.

You can look close at the right wing where the guys have "Tufted" the front of the chord with little strips of yarn. Maybe I should put a yaw string on my A3 visor to make sure I'm not slide slipping in my bird-man suit. Glen.

Cacophony 0 #13 October 16, 2002 I bet that there would be tons of drag when you are landing with that SkyRay. Those wings would slow you down like peanut butter in a swimming pool.
bobsled92 0 #14 October 17, 2002 http://www.freesky.de/SKYRAY.html They are very friendly people. I've kept in contact with for 2yrs now. I was urging them to demo it at the WFFC. Check out the videos there.there are several models they work with and deploy is rip cord type, landing with sky ray attached. Harness goes on you 1st. then your rig. then theskyray attaches to the harness. you also have 2 hard mounted "handles to wrap your hands/grip around(not thru) I can't wait to fly it.they are connected with Team Daedalus. _______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/
