Eloy Holiday Boogie

Is anyone going to be flying wingsuits at Eloy (more than just occasionally)?

I'm looking to get some wingsuiting in, so the number of folks flying will greatly impact my decision on whether or not to show up (especially given my rather attractive alternative).

Who's going to be flying there?

Skymonkeyone has anounounced he'll be there. And he seems to a a bit obsessed with his skyflyer. He's also offered up coaching so i bet there will be a lot of low timers flocking too.

Yeah, but I bet he'll too busy coaching to muck about with a flailing fat guy like me.

Anyone else?

IF I show up I will be bringing my Classic II with me. I'm a newbie though and will be trying to learn. I'm not sure about my show up status because I have to work non-stop from December 5-16th so my coworker can go to the 300 way

On the contrary, Tom. I will fly with anyone. I am not looking for cash or handouts from experienced wingsuit pilots either. I doubt I will be too busy after getting the first batch of new pilots off the ground. I plan on defraying the cost of my "fun" flights with what jump tickets I get from those first flight people. I am bringing both my GTi and my SkyFlyer, plus an assload of demo suits for people, assuming they get with me in a timely manner and the suits are available.

Tom,
I will be there from the 28th to the 1st, with my Crossbow. I you want to fly with a lead slug I'm the right choice. Let me know if you're going to be there.

What the frap is a crossbow? Is that the "other" wingsuit that didn't "fly" or "takeoff" ?

The Crossbow is the "French" wingsuit. Designed by Loic, marketed by Parasport Italia. I don't think you can buy them new anymore, at least not without having a personal connection with the French guys who are flying them.

The Crossbow is generally more stable, and easier to fly than the Birdman suits, but suffers from a bit lower quality construction. Because it has bigger wings, it gets flying a bit sooner (a huge plus for fixed object flights--especially for the heavies) and takes a little less skill/practice to fly well. It has about the same glide angle as a GTi (not quite as good as a Skyflyer, better than a Classic), but tends to move slower (less forward speed, more float) than a comparable Birdman suit. The wing cutaway system is quite outstanding (one handle, dead center on the chest, cuts it all away, and it takes about one minute to hook it back up).

Notably video you may have seen of Crossbows includes:

Some of the "Crosswind" footage.

Flare getting his handles sucked into the suit, struggling to get them out, and finally getting his reserve open for a four second canopy ride (that was the scariest skydiving video I've ever seen--does anyone have the link? I think it's somewhere on headdown.net).

The Little Aussie flying between the guy wires of a television tower in Texas.

I kind of wish they were still marketing it. Competition spurs innovation and advance in any field.

Interesting, sounds like besides the construction durability factor that it was a good product. Why did they quit making them ?

To make a link clickable, put [_url_] before it, and [_/url_] after it. Remove the _, I just put it in so that you could see what was there.

Flare's Reserve Ride. And to think, the last time I saw him, he cautioned me to be careful. Crazy Swedes!

"Fistfull of F-111", produced by the Australian BASE Association.

Buy it here

The original raw footage, from a few more camera angles, and including the humiliating after landing footage of the Little Aussie with his head stuck in a cactus, is available for a reasonable fee from the ground cameraman, who moonlights as the BASE moderator on DZ.com. ;)

Hi Tom --

I'll be in Phoenix for a bucket of demos from 28 Dec to 4 Jan. But it looks like I will be down at Eloy on the 1st with my GTi (which is due to arrive any day now).

I'm sure I'll be busy trying to learn it's flight characteristics, but would absolutely love to fly with you. Not to mention that I'm being housed in a tall hotel in Phoenix...

Oops! I'll take that one to the other forum or private email...

Is anyone going to fly a wingsuit on Jan 11/12? I know it's not the holiday boogie, but I'll be on a business trip to Phoenix for a couple of days and planned to drive down to Eloy with my SkyFlyer over the weekend.
