vector 3 deluxe backpad

Recommended Posts

Hi Dave,

RWS puts extra padding in the backpad which makes it extremely comfortable.

I wouldn't say a MUST, but personally I wouldn't like to have my next Vector without:

-Trulok toggle system
-Stainless Steel hardware
-Freefly handle (looks like pull-out, is throw out)
-Split Color option
-Custom fit (ring)harness
-Anti-twist risers

What other options are a MUST?

imho, of course.... VGH harness (hip rings). Collapsible main p/c. Anti twist tubes in the risers.

I wouldn't pay the extra for stainless on a Vector3; the standard hardware that RWS uses (I believe it's a nickel plate) looks way sharp.

My girlfriend has the back pad on her Micron and I don't on my Micron. We both say they are super comfortable. She is pretty thin and does not have a lot of muscle or fat surrounding the bones in her back, so that was her decision maker. I have more muscle from years of surfing and rock climbing, so I left the back pad out. It is definitely not a must. I believe the only musts are:

Riser Housings
Hip Rings
Trulock Toggles
Centerline pilot chute

Have fun.

Cool. Very good ($100) piece of info.

Thanks for all the other info. I think I'll do without the deluxe backpad.

I tried a javelin odyssey that had velcoless toggles. On my first jump, i stuck a gloved finger right through the loop of stowed brake line without realizing it before unstowing the brakes. Not a major problem, just caught me by surprise. With my velcro toggles, I always carefully stow the excess brakeline. I don't see this as a huge reason not to get the trulock toggles since I'd just be more careful with them, but should it be a consideration?

I'm ready to order this thing as soon as I get the colors looking right. Why do they have to give so many choices??

Dave

RWS loves me:
I ordered >>>every<<< possible option plus custom embroidery.
after realizing that my "used car/hi mile" was 11 years NEWER than my rig, I decided to go all out for the >1st< time.
By the time November gets here, I will owe at least 4 cases of beer for gear alone.

p.s. jumpsuit made to match rig(attch)

The antitwist risers are the ones that have hard riser housings in them.

And you can retrofit this little 4 or 5 inch flexible metal tube ( it is like the cutaway cable housing in your rig that traverses your yolk and mudflaps and pokes out at your 3 rings. But is only a few inches in length and has an end cap.) into other risers for less than 50 bucks.
If you fly at heavy wingloads or even moderate wing loads on canopys that are famous for spinning up they are a good idea.
Several experiments have been conducted in a hanging harness with a weight scale to show that they are effective at reducing the pressure required to cuttaway a bad main.

I use RWS trulock/anti-twist risers on my rigs, even though neither of them is an RWS creation.
Lately though, their customer service is dropping, risers have been on order since July and still aren't here yet (that's kinda pissing me off).
IMO the risers are the best out there. I use Mirage D-bags in my Odyssey too (again personal pref).
