vandev 0 #1 April 1, 2003 Hey guys , Just wondering wher to find used classic suits to start birding. I see alot of people talking about getting more advanced suits. What happens to the clasics? I would be intrested in a used suit, even a demo. Im average size about 5'8" 175 lbs.I dont see anybody doing it down here near Miami. Any leads would be great. Also is anyone with a Power Racer birding? Need to know if my rig would be fine for the suit and what mods i would need to do Thanks All! Blue Skies! SkymonkeyONE 4 #2 April 1, 2003 Not sure where the rest of them are, but the gear store at Deland has a whole rack of old, original classics. There are also generally some for sale here in the classifieds. The reason most people (like me) keep their classics is so that they can lend them to their friends or rent them out. LouDiamond 1 #4 April 2, 2003 QuoteAlso is anyone with a Power Racer birding? I jump my racer elite with my suit as does another BM at my DZ. I think racers make excellent BM rigs."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
kimgriffin 0 #5 April 2, 2003 SkyMonkey meant the store at Skydive DeLand. They have something like 5 brand new Classic I suits on the rack. One main difference on the ClassicI compared to the ClassicII is that the I only has 1 zipper up the belly, while the II has 2 zipper going up the front. So, the Classic I will fly just as well but you will have get in to it while laying the suit on the floor and sliding in to it. The wing design is the same on both suits. The CI would be a good first suit if they offer you a good price. They've had those suits there for almost 2 years so I bet they[email] will make a deal with you. A new ClassicII retails for 618. (By the way, I have nothing to do with the store at the DZ, except I give them my money when I go fly.) The DeLand DZ store number is 386-738-3539. I would ask for Sarah or Sazz - they are the two girls there who would be able to help you best when it comes to the suits. I would also put a posting on the classified section for "Wanted" and see what you come up with. Good luck! I hope you find your new toy at a great price and are up flying soon. ManBird 0 #6 April 2, 2003 I jumped a Racer Elite with my GTi for awhile. My advice is to pack as evenly as possible and make sure to burn off a lot of your forward speed and start falling before deploying to keep the bag from over-rotating off your back. I had a couple of deployments in a fast track where I saw the bag leaving my back spinning, causing line twists (was able to kick out). DEFINITELY get at least a 100" bridle!!! (pin to apex). I had several hesitations with my old default Racer bridle. If you can pack grommit to pin with your Racer (which I never could), or modify the bag to stow the lines more on top than the sides (which I never did), or if you don't mind having the corners open (never did that one, either), then that would also allow you to fly a little more freely. These are all things that work well with other forms of skydiving, too."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
LouDiamond 1 #7 April 2, 2003 QuoteI had a couple of deployments in a fast track where I saw the bag leaving my back spinning, causing line twists (was able to kick out). I'm going to have to chalk that up to something specific to you or your rig because I've never had that problem nor has the other BM who jumps a racer. That's not to say it can't happen, just that we've yet to have any of the problems you mentioned."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
ManBird 0 #8 April 3, 2003 How old is your Racer, does it have any mods, and are you able to pack pin to grommit or do you rotate the bag up or down? Mine is about ten years old, no mods, unable to pack pin to grommit, and due to prior "regular" skydiving habit, rotated the bag down (lines facing bottom of container). I also only ran into problems when I was dumping in a full track, and even then it was only like 10% of time. I also wasn't packing really evenly. Giving it a sec + packing evenly fixed the problems for me."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
vandev 0 #9 April 3, 2003 Thank's Kim, but they where only going to give it to me for $518.00. Thats not a very good deal. I've seen them for around $300.00 but not in my size. if you here of anything let me know. Thanks again kim! In the end...the universe has a way of working itself out.... ManBird 0 #10 April 3, 2003 Oh, did I mention that I was usually eating graham crackers on deployment? When I switched over to Saltines, that cleared a lot of stuff up."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
LouDiamond 1 #11 April 3, 2003 QuoteHow old is your Racer My rig is about 6-7 years old, has no BM mods. I pack it the same as I would for a normal skydive. I am jumping a Saber 135 and I make sure to leave a good portion of line in the bag, at least one bites worth. I have yet to have any deployment problems(knock on wood). It actually comes off my back fairly smooth and as of late opens rather quickly(time to change all the rubber bands on the D bag). Another question for you. What are your post deployment procedures after throwing the pilot chute? I have read of other BM having slightly different techniques after pitching( back to Full flight, bending knees and looking up, etc)"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
