Birdman Line twists

Recommended Posts

Is it common to have line twists on deployment even if you have a darn good pack job on the main? Seems when I open its kinda a occurance that always happens nomatter what. My rig is a Javelin with Birdman option stuff on it. Any imput? :|

The only time I ever have line twists is from my own fault from body position during and thru the pull. I have my bag so it has the line stows all on top and I put my bag in the container straight down instead of turning it. I do not have any other mods (such as cut corners or 9' bridal or anything else). Dunno what to say!:S

Trailer 11/12 was the best. Thanks for the memories ... you guys rocked!

Body position, body position, body position. Look over either shoulder during the pull and you are asking for it. Don't put your knees completely together and collapse the leg wing completely during opening and you are asking for it.

It's all body position. Perfect symmetry or else. Good point by SkyMonkey. If your legs are un even, you'll definitely spin a bit, which often leads into line twists.

In DeLand right now. I saw a guy get run over last night (not at the DZ). This town is weird.

i had problems with line twists.. i still need to prefect my body position but i got cut corners now and it has really solved a lot of the problem, haven't had one line twist in the 3 jumps i've done since the cut corners.. (so maybe it was more than body position for me?)

he was goign to put some usaf decals on it... do you knowif he succeded or dint do it?

I'm still experimenting, i got my test fabric in.. the color transfer worked pretty good on the test fabric but the black transfers don't work very well - i think it is because i don't have a constant pressure heat press (using an iron). I'm talking to various t-shirt places to see if I can use their heat press, also looking to other options for doing it.

So as of now it's just a space suit :)

I fly a Sabre 120 loaded at 1.5. I can only vouch for my own experience, but here's something to consider:

Wingsuits are very sensitive to body position. Line twists with wingsuit are caused by body position about 99% of the time. When you deploy a little off, and your canopy wants to dive or turn in one direction or the other, if you try to fight it right away, you will give yourself line twists.

My little trick is to not fight it. If my canopy comes out wanting to go right, I'll go with it. I raise my left leg and grab the little bit of riser I can reach with my right hand and just let it go to the right. If I go the opposite way that my canopy wants to go... line twists. I may have to do one or two full revolutions before it runs out of steam, but I haven't had line twists since putting this into practice (mods help, too, of course).
