storm1977 0 #1 September 20, 2003 Hey everyone. Are there any tricks to getting the main in it's bag? I am reagy to throw my chute out the window. I am jumping a triathlon 190 it only has 10 jumps on it, and i can not get it in the bag. I have done it once, and it opened great, but I have practicing and practicing and I am getting piss off now. Suggestions? ps- I pro pack Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
Casch 0 #2 September 20, 2003 I've heard Psycho Packing is much much easier and often produces even softer openings than pro-packing on some canopies.
skybytch 273 #3 September 20, 2003 Give the manufacturer (Aerodyne International) a call and ask about their Tri packing video. They show a slightly different way of putting it in the bag that I've been told works real well.
betzilla 56 #4 September 20, 2003 I'm with ya. It does suck. But you'll get the hang of it. The good thing about your chute versus a PD chute, is that Aerodyne's zp fabric is "stickier" than PD's, so you're actually having an easier time with your Triathlon than you would be with a PD canopy of the same age... That probably didn't make you feel any better. The less little fabric ends that you have sticking out of the top of the canopy, as you're cocooning it, the better contained it is, and the easier it will slip into the bag. But I think the secret is really just knowing where to put your hands and knees while packing, to keep it from squirting out on you. You'll get that with practice. Good luck! storm1977 0 #5 September 20, 2003 Thanks... Your the one who sold it to me..bastard!!! It is true, I have heard the Tri's are easier to pack. I tried to pack my friends sabre 170 just for shits and giggles.. I have to say that sucked. I am at work right now and there isn't much to do so I brought my rig in with me to practice packing. I just hope the boss doesn't show up and catch me. Oh wait...I am the boss Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
PROGRESSIVE 0 #6 September 20, 2003 I purchased my Sabre 2, last Fall, and had a real difficult time packing. My dealer said to have it packed by a packer for the first 30 jumps. After that it should get easier...and it has. One thing I've learned is when I roll the tail together real tight while having the canopy laying nose up, and then rolling the entire canopy back over to eliminate the 180 degree line twists, now tail up, I can get the canopy the same width of the d-bag more easily. Make sure that after you lay on it, squeezing all the air out, make your folds quickly and stuff it in the bag before it starts to breath, and inflate. Get the first locking stow on it, and then you can puttz around. Its gotta be fast! I think people around me were wondering if I was a competent skydiver when they first saw me pack. Now that I've gotten better at it, I still think they wonder...JK.
tinfoil 0 #7 September 21, 2003 I hear you. I'm in the same situation as you packing a Sabre2 150, and its hell. Nevertheless, it will get easier over time. Until then, there may not be much you can do. You might have really good technique, but it takes experience to pack a new canopy. You just learn to use anything to hold it together, where to put however much pressure, etc. I can only suggest what I've been doing. Try to pack it until you are about to kick the canopy, and then ask for someone for help. Hopefully, you'll be able to find someone who was once in your position and had to ask for help packing a new canopy when they were a newbie. Only thing is, next newbie who gets a new canopy they can't pack, it would be your turn to help them. “- - Sumo is the greatest of sports. It has power, grace, speed and cluture. storm1977 0 #8 September 21, 2003 I have had a lot of people to help... Thank God. It is just annoying that's all. I can't manafest quick, because the DZ packers are busy with the tandem rigs, and it takes me forever. The funny thing is, the first time i tried to pack it, i got in the bag on my first go around. It took me maybe 5 mins to flake fold and bag it. I was quite impressed with myself, then I got to thinking...That was too easy.. Did I fuck up? Is it going to open? Well, it worked but, it has been a bitch of a time ever since. I guess it will just get easier every single time. In the beggining I would just stare at it, and didn't know which were my A's, B's, C's .... I have gotten used to looking at it now and I can pick the nose flake it and roll the tal in about 2 mins. So, I feel I have progressed a lot. I really like this canopy because it has a lot of memory. Once I stuff the nose in my legs, the canopy lays open perfectly. I almost don't even need to flake it everything is already in place. I go through the motions anyway. tbrown 26 #9 September 21, 2003 A while back I jumped a brand new Spectre demo canopy that was fresh out of the bag. Frank at Square 1 even showed me the line attachments at the canopy ribs, that they'd never even been pulled tight, so for sure the thing had never been opened. Skybytch talks about "slick as snot", but that doesn't even quite get it by half. The fabric was like dragon snot, it was horrible. For once I broke down and paid a packer to help me bag it, it was that or not jump, I just couldn't do it. Made me wonder if I ever really wanted to buy a new canopy at all, but of course we all want one. Next time I encounter a snotmonster canopy, I'm gonna try and go psycho with it. Had a long talk with a woman from Georgia who psycho packed for years. She even was the team packer for a 4 way team. They told her her pack jobs gave the best openings they'd ever had, anywhere, on any canopy. If it looks easy and seems to work, it probably is/does. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! Garycal 0 #10 September 22, 2003 QuoteThe important thing is to get all the air out of it . Try after you land to get it by the tail and work the air toward the nose[
 jsaxton 0 #11 September 22, 2003 Throw $5.00 on top of it and it will pack itself!
 mr2mk1g 10 #12 September 22, 2003 Once you've put the first S fold in the canopy and are kneeling on the stack get the D bag on the ground in front of you and lay it out as you have it to put the canopy in it. now pull it gently under the stack so that you have the gromets showing on the other side of the stack and the lip section of the D bag entirely under the canopy. Now when you "step" backwards off the stack to make the second S fold you "step" back onto the two gromets so you are knealing on them. Now instead of trying to lift the stack/jam the stack into the D bag its already half into the bag, you just have to work the uppermost corner of the D bag round the top of the canopy stack. You can also push the stack into the D bag as much as you like without the D bag slipping away from you as you are knealing on the gromets. I find this works wonders for me and the best bit is I invented it so I feel great about it.
