Skyflyer - Appropriate for 1st BM Suit?

Recommended Posts

Kevin jumps with me a Byron, and we'll be getting our suits about the same time.

Stay tuned, pics and video to follow. Plus, the classic and the GTi in the DZ are gonna order SF3's soon as me and the Tall Guy figure out how to dust them.

I really have nothing to compare the S3 against as it was all I had the opportunity to fly. But I will say this. The first time I flew it I really did very little to take advantage of it's full potential. I was pretty surprised by how natural it felt. On the following three jumps I worked really hard on de-arching and putting tension on the wings to decrease my fall rate. I found this made me incredibly unstable. So much so that I actually had to totally collapse my wings to keep me from completely loosing control. While I realize the concept is valid I guess it will just take some more experience to do it right. So I guess my advice to anyone looking to make the S3 their first suit is to relax and don't try to do too much too soon.

I'll be trying to follow my own advice when mine arrives, hopefully in the next month. Speaking of which has anyone received one recently? If so how long was the delivery time? I suspect that production is backed up but I ordered mine on August 8th and I'm really hoping to have it on time for the Byron Boogie on September 26th.

Deuce buddy, You're on. Let's show em' how it's done.

Sounds about right. For those that are choosing to go right to the S1 or S3, take it very, very easy at first. Spend your first few jumps on practice pulls, leaving your entire body relaxed. Then work on getting your arms right, without pushing the legs or d-arching, for several jumps. Once that's dialed, then work on getting your arms right and straightening and widening your legs, with no d-arch. Spend a while on getting this stable. Once that's dialed in, move onto maxing the suit out... arms correct, legs straight and wide, toes pointed, shoulders rolled forwards, and a slight d-arch.

If you're going right to one of these suits, I'd guesstimate that you probably won't feel comfortable and stable in an effective max position for at least 20 flights... more like 30 or so. Take it really easy. If it gets unstable, arch, relax, and try again. If you get into a spin, ball up. Dump high and be safe. The Skyflyer suits will spank you hard if you try to give them any shit.
