Mirage Containers

Recommended Posts

Although the discussion was brief, my AFF JM said unequivocally that I should purchase a Mirage container if I could afford it. He is a very down to earth guy, professional skydiver, and not sponsored by anyone, thus I have no reason to believe he has ulterior motives in his recommendation. His reasons, in essence, amounted to superior quality, comfort, customer service, and safety. Obviously, these are aspects people look for in all rigs. Anyways, I went to the Mirage website and checked out their selection (G3 and G4). I am looking for advice here strictly from current or past owners of Mirage rigs. Please provide me with your evaluations of the quality, comfort, etc. of the rig. Also, if you have one with the Unisyn harness, how comfortable is it? Is it worth the price? Thoughts and comments are appreciated. Thanks

I have three different containers. A G3 Mirage, a Wings, and Vector II. My Wings has articulated hip rings (VERY comfortable, well worth the price), my G3 has just the regular harness. Both of these are more comfortable than the Vector II, but the Wings is more comfortable than the G3. I think only because of the hip ring. The G3 has a few more extras for riser and bridle protection than the Wings and a slightly smaller profile for essentially the same container size. If my G3 had the hip rings I think it would probably be more comfortable than the Wings, but it would be close. In the end it is a matter of personal taste. Which container can you get at a reasonable price and in a reasonable amount of time? If I was buying new right now it would be a G3 (not a G4 - $$ being the factor) with a fully articulated harness - UNLESS - it was going to take them 6 months to deliver. Then I would get a Wings... Just my personal opinion from using all three. Take it for what it's worth. Buying a container is like buying a car, some like one brand and some like another.

Just because the guy is your JM does not make his advice gospel.

A lot of people are very big advocates of the rig they have chosen as their own, Including myself.

Of course the decision I have made is the best!
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

No offense or anything, but one thing that irks me about DZ.com sometimes is that people put words into other peoples' mouths, or, for that matter, posts. I NEVER once said or implied that my JM was the ever-knowing authority regarding containers. If I had, why would I have bothered asking for advice here? Maybe nothing was intended by that small comment, but I see those types of remarks here far too often.

Well, that is, because lots of people are asking for info on their new stuff without reading the gear reviews and doing a search.
Aditionally, many come and say:My JM said (fill text here), is it right? No offense intended, but in terms of gear usually the my-car-is-best-effect kicks in.
If money is not an option, i'd go for a Mirage or a Wings (just ordered a Wings myself, just can't wait these 3 more weeks...), but try them on if you can to get an idea.;)
The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open.
From the edge you just see more.

I own a G4, and I agree with your instructors recommendation. I find the rig very comfortable, I got the full articulation. Pin and riser protection are great and so is their customer service. Before I bought the rig I had some questions and concerns and they always took the time to answer my questions completely. I also got some embroidery on the sidewalls and it turned out fantastic. The only thing I might have an issue with is how their risers are made and how you have to stow the excess brake line, but I just spoke to Mirage a couple of days ago and apparently they have a new riser out. Seems to have solved that problem. And there is my $.02.

I have owned 3 Mirage and one Vector III with two of my Mirage containers having the Unisyn harness. It is the best designed harness i have ever worn. The harness has extra padding on the hardware and has the best body conformity available with the smartest placement of articulation points. It does not bind or kink anywhere. Oh yes, did i mention that i got it i 4 WEEKS! They have the best quality and delivery time and great customer service. How do you beat that! Hope this helps.
