Zeemax 0 #1 January 2, 2004 Hey all... At only 75 jumps, i know its too early to be donning a suit, but its something i've ALWAYS wanted to do (as in one of the main reasons i got into skydiving). My home DZ (headcorn) is not big on wing suits, in fact, i've only ever seen one there and he's not been back, so i thought you guys might be able to help me out. What can i be doing in my skydives to help me prepare for wingsuit flying? My tracking is pretty good, should i keep working on it? what kind of things should i be doing? should i practice any other kind of deployment? I've read almost eveything on birdman.com, are there any other good sites for information? Are there any good places in the UK for wingsuit flying? are there any good people i could speak to, see if i cant buy them beer to take me under there wing? Sorry for al the questions, and if there is any advice anyone can give me, it will be greatly received. billvon 3,009 #3 January 3, 2004 >What can i be doing in my skydives to help me prepare for wingsuit flying? Learn to track well (i.e. flat and far) and get good at controlling your heading in a track. >My tracking is pretty good, should i keep working on it? Yep! Although there is a lot to flying a suit well, most people are suprised at how easy it is to learn the basics. If you can track well, you can learn how to fly a wingsuit pretty quickly, provided you cover all the other safety aspects (how to wave off and deploy, how to bail out with one etc.)
dragon2 2 #4 January 3, 2004 Henny Wiggers (BMI, posts here as ParaShoot) has a whole list of things to practice before wingsuiting for real. Also, freeflying helps to make you comfortable in 'weird' positions. ciel bleu, Saskia
VectorBoy 0 #5 January 3, 2004 Spotting won't be as critical but navigation out away from the jump run and back to a suitable opening zone will be paramount. You will be covering ground in your wings learn navigation. You don't want to open high under your standard jump run as there will be other jumpers coming down around you. And you want to open higher, at least at first, when flying wingsuits. If your dropzone is shared by ultralights, sailplanes and other general aviation aircraft learn their procedures, patterns and areas to avoid.
LouDiamond 1 #6 January 3, 2004 I just trained a whole flock of Birds from the UK who picked up their suits here in Eloy for the boogie. Don't know if they jump at your DZ but they shouldn't be hard to find since they will probably be the only ones jumping in groups now."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
