cutaway1 3 #1 January 8, 2004 The video of the birdman flying low over the snow skiers heads has been making the rounds at our D.Z., it is just so spectacular. But, people have been saying that he went in shortly after that video was made, is this true, I would appreciate any information. Thanks and Aloha, TimSCR-

TomAiello 26 #6 January 9, 2004 My understanding is that it was a cliff jump in high winds. No wingsuit. I've got an email somewhere on my hard drive in which he describes it. Sounded like a fairly big bang up, but nothing permanent.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

They are also doing a 372-way freefall formation, which is shown farther down on that page that you linked to. The 7,200 ft are correct! That is a Mass Jump, not a Big-Way Freefall Formation. Here's the complete explanation: ===================================== Largest Mass Freefall Jump Sanam Luang Royal Ceremonial Grounds, Bangkok 24 January 2004 The first world record targeted for the Royal Sky Celebration will be for the category of 'Largest Mass Freefall Jump.' World Team '04 will attempt to eclipse the current mass freefall record of 572 skydivers set in Bangkok, Thailand, on 2 December 1999, and the current record of 588 (which included one aircraft load of static line jumpers) set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 18 April 2000. On Friday, 23 January, a briefing will be held at 10:00 am the Windsor Suites Hotel for the World Team members who will participant in the Mass Freefall Jump the next day. Following the briefing, jumpers will have an opportunity to visit the Sanam Luang drop zone, and are encouraged to take the time to do so. On Saturday, 24 January, World Team members participating in the Mass Freefall Jump will board buses early in the morning (probably 07:00), which will take them to the RTAF Base in Bangkok. Support personnel and accompanying persons will be bused directly to the Sanam Luang drop zone. At approximately 11:00, the Royal Thai Air Force will fly a formation of six Hercules C-130's over downtown Bangkok at 2,200 meters / 7,200 feet. After these aircraft pass near the Grand Palace, World Team's international contingent of 430+ skydivers and 240+ elite Thai skydivers will exit from the tailgate ramps to set a Guinness Book Mass Freefall Jump World Record with a total of 672 skydivers.. After opening their parachutes, skydivers will unfurl long yellow and blue streamers, which will trail behind them as they fly toward the Sanam Luang Royal Ceremonial Grounds to land. The colored streamers are symbols of the Royal colors of Thailand: yellow is the color of the Royal Standard, and blue is the background color of Her Majesty the Queen's personal flag. This Royal Sky Celebration Mass Freefall Jump will signal the beginning of an eight-month-long Celebration honoring Her Majesty the Queen, whose birthday is August 12. The number "672" was selected for its symbolic significance to honor Her Majesty's 6th (12-year) life cycle 72nd birthday. http://www.theworldteam.com/PPsanam.htm ===================================== Blue Skies! ----------------------------- Mario Santos Portugal
 bodypilot1 0 #14 January 15, 2004 Quote it'll be massive hysteria to land in the royal garden in bangkok...
