Anyone flying a Katana w/ wingsuit?

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering for feedback of people flying wingsuit and a Katana canopy on their wingsuit rig. I fly on my regular rig a Velo79 and in my 2nd rig/wingsuit rig a Vengeance 97 (which have more than 900 jumps now) and just want to know which canopy to buy when that time comes to replace the vengeance. I love my velo but I already had to cut it away in one my S3 flight and the experience on that jump was not a good one, but still, I like to swoop a lot and I was wondering for feedback on this canopy + wingsuit.

If so, have you had bad opening? too unpredictable openings? Or should I consider something less sporty as a Sabre2, crossfire, etc.?

Any constructive feedback will be greatly appreciated ;)

Jari owns a Velocity, but he doesn't jump it with his suit anymore (not since 4th of July weekend 2003). He switched to a Sabre2 97 after that weekend and before Rantoul and jumped that until about a week ago when he took possession of a Katana.

No, he does not "cut his legs away", he unzips and sticks the leg wing in the inlet hole, just like I do.

"iffy" means that the openings are less predictable than those of his Sabre2.

Last few weeks i have been jumping jumping katana 89 and 83 all the time and simply fell in love with that canopy. The openings have been great, the canopy flies, dives and swoops absolutely great and the over all performance with the wingsuit is the best I have ever experienced. I still would recommend Sabre 2 to anybody with less than 1000 wingsuit jumps :P , BUT if you are used to faster canopies then you will just love Katana.

Oh, I just ordered the 89 Katana and it will compliment my velocity 79 where ever I go.

Safe flights!

hey, don't take me wrong, that K open beautifully with the suit. i have 1600 + flights and still get funny openings no matter what the canopy. the point is how they behave after you get the funky stuff, i have already been kicking some twists off from that K 83 and that was a walk in the park, eyes closed, hands in the pocket ;)
