LittleSkyWitch 0 #1 March 20, 2004 Hi! My friend wants to buy a wingsuit but he doesn't know English. So he asked me to help him with searching the information. Would you help two aliens to clear up some things? How does the Robert cut away system work? Thanks!__*______________________________ Little SkyWitch http://www.skydiveua.info ______________________________*__
PhreeZone 20 #2 March 20, 2004 "Robert" is a term I'm not fimiliar with in reguards to a cutaway system. Are you maybe refering to the Birdman cutaway system designed by Robert on the Birdman® suits? The Sfly and Matter suits use a different style then the Birdman style cutaway system.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
SKYPEDESTRIAN 0 #3 March 21, 2004 The suit description of at least one of the models (I think it is the GTI) on www.bird-man.com refers to the 'Robert' cutaway system. I just took it to mean the standard BirdMan wing cutaway system that all of their current suits use. skypedestrian@earthlink.net

I'm interested in defference between these systems.__*______________________________ Little SkyWitch http://www.skydiveua.info ______________________________*__
TomAiello 26 #5 March 22, 2004 In a nutshell: The birdman suits use a "one handle per wing" cutaway system. The handles are located at the jumper's sides, just below the end of the wing. Each handle has two cables, one for the front and one for the rear surface of the wing. The cutaway cable runs right up the side of the jumpers body, and when activated, detaches the wing from the side of the body, leaving it attached to the underside of the arm. Birdman suits with leg cutaway systems mount another handle (or two, if you have cutaway on both sides of the leg) a few inches below the arm wing cutaway handle. This handle has one cutaway cable, which runs down the outside of the leg, parallel to the zipper. When activated, this cutaway essentially opens the leg, as if it were unzipped, allowing the jumper to remove his leg(s) from the leg of the suit, leaving the leg wing, still attached to the suit leg, hanging free. I think the birdman setup is a little more aerodynamically sound, and might be easier to cutaway in a high G force malfunction. On the other hand, the S-Fly/Matter cutaway is easier to replace, so cutting away on every jump is no big deal. I also like the idea of being able to cut away with just one handle.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
