VectorBoy 0 #4 April 13, 2004 No flames Leroy but you are thinking and doing too much to your wardrobe. The smoking pants I've seen are cheap, cheap rain gear with cigarette holes burned into the area near the crotch. And some slightly more expensive units made out of stylish "Jogging" pants with holes burned near the crotch. Since I'm too smart to jog anymore and now that I'm a skydiver, run and hide from rain. I will take my collection of stylish "jogging" pants and the raingear out of my locker at work and make some to experiment with even though I know no girl will slap my ass like they do when you wear my Trackpantz. i just hope it doesn't lead to smoking. treemonkey 0 #6 April 15, 2004 I got the scoop on the smoking hole pants from some norwegian jumpers two weeks ago in Lauterbrunnen, after they saw the first pair I had made with the holes mid thigh, and finished laughing. This design did little more than made my legs cold when I walked. My tracks were well away from the wall but just to the begining of the trees exiting from la mosse. I went home that week, bought a 5 euro(about 7 usd$) pair of rain pants. I burnt 6 symetrical holes(2 rows of 3 about 3/4" apart) on each side of the crotch between where the bottom of the zipper would be and the inseam. Then I ran some cord through the waist band so I could cinch the waist band tight. Keep in mind that these pants are intended to be put on after your rig over your leg straps, so you might want to go up a size or two. Also you don't pull your boots all the way through the foot holes, only about half way and then I used two rubberbands on each boot to secure the legs and create "botties" while holding in the air. Using these new pants I was able to track out to the edge of the trees(field side) which was about 40-50 meters more. Same conditions same exit point, but with the distance I was getting I could make the delay longer and clear the trees. the best 7 bucks I ever spent. ManBird 0 #7 April 15, 2004 Does site naming go for this forum, too? Popular spots, but still."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
TomAiello 26 #8 April 16, 2004 There's a post in the BASE forum from a Swiss jumper specifically asking that those sites not be named. I'm not empowered to moderate in this forum, though. So all I can do is point out that it's kind of rude to disregard the requests of the locals.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
treemonkey 0 #9 April 16, 2004 I'm sorry for stepping on anyones toes. I didn't consider this to be "burning sites " seeing how it is completely legal. When I emailed the SBA about being in there area and asking of any changes they didn't mention it. Just trying to pass on the knowledge
TomAiello 26 #10 April 16, 2004 QuoteI didn't consider this to be "burning sites " seeing how it is completely legal. In my opinion, legal sites are the most sensitive, since they are the ones that can actually _be_ "burnt" (i.e. made illegal). You might check out Toni's (from Switzerland) post in this thread. Some parts that are relevant: QuoteI too am sick hearing that "since it is legal, we can do whatever we want" attitude. Those walls are really really near to get closed. Forever! ... ...people weren't quite happy to actually see jumpers going in (understandable). If they could, they would close the site...Forever! ... To finish, I think for "our" spots: 1. ALL jump places should go from mouth to ear. There is never that much information about a site in written format. This will reduce risks on a most effective way, not anything written somewhere at some time by someone anonymous can replace that... I'm really not making this stuff up. When jumping has been banned at a site, it has _never_ become legal again--ever, anywhere in the world. The legal sites are the most sensitive ones. The legal sites in Southern Europe in particular have been very troublesome over the past few years, with various authorities stepping in to regulate or ban jumping, and local jumpers having to donate huge amounts of their own time and money to negotiate with those authorities. Personally, I'm grateful for the locals who care enough to try to keep the sites open for all of us BASE tourists. I try to show this by respecting their wishes.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
