Wingsuit StatArt

Recommended Posts

Just kinda messing around right now. Just wanted to get the stats on a particular jump for learning purposes and had a little fun with layout and making it a bit informational and pretty:

I'd say there's maybe a 5% margin of error for every stat on here, but it's pretty damn close. Nothing to prove here. I just wanted to track this one because it's a "normal" jump. That is, I wasn't getting out super far away and flying with a perfect tailwind the whole time. I wasn't flying until my arms or legs came off. A pretty fair amount of time was spent in each wind direction. In other words, it's a well-rounded flight.

There was a stiff wind out of the southwest for most of the flight, averaging around 35 - 40mph above 3k (and was still about 14 - 16mph on the ground). I never really got lined up perfectly with the wind on this flight, but it aided in getting about a 3:1 glide ratio for one leg. Flying a just little floaty
into the stiff wind brought the glide down to 1.4:1.

That's all.

Yeah. That, and I had a route mapped out beforehand. I've use GPS, as well, and found that it really isn't that much more accurate than remembering waypoints and altitudes (and checking against freefall speeds in Paralog). I'll remember being directly above a landmark and making a turn. I then do a bit of checking against GPS data to confirm that I wasn't looking at an angle (I usually look straight down when flying solo).

Anywho -- just more of a fun thing to do and share rather than going for pinpoint stats.

Hi,

Nice!
I assume that was in your S3, by way of reference, could you give us your 'vital stats' height, weight. Appologies if this has been asked before.

Simon

Thanks. Those stats are on there actually (near the top left -- kind of small print). S3, 5'10", exit weight of 192lbs (weighed with full gear on Saturday morning).

Thanks, thats pretty build similar to me, it is nice to see that there is somebody with a similar build setting performance targets that I can aspire to!

I have been struggling to get a view on how much wingsuit performance is determined by the pilot's build, how much is due to the suit and how much due to technique.

Cheers,

Simon
