Hi All,

Does anybody know how the PF suits are coming along ? Pricing, performace and release ?

Cheers,

Simon

The website says that it will be available early September. No pricing info on there but it should be safe to assume..early September as well.

I happened to ask Robi this question yesterday :P

The Phoenix Fly Wingsuit will be unveiled to the public on Saturday 16th Oct at Bridge Day 2004.

It will be possible to order suits at Bridge day and online shortly afterwards.

The retail price is still not fixed.

As for performance..... I only did one jump on the PF ws prototype in Norway but I felt the difference right away. On that first jump I out performed my S3. More forward speed, lower vertical speed and better glide. Good flyers will be able to reach 3:1 glide ratio!! :o

Long flights,

J

(I still have a lot left in my S3 also... but the colours are so 80s....;) )

Damn, that sounds good.

Very curious to get more details on the suit, from someone who's actually flown one!
:)Is the body position any different from the S3?
Is the arm pressure in max flight comparable to the S3? ( or lighter, heavier )

Is the wing profile such that it requires use of a suit mounted pc pouch?
Does anyone have a more detailed description of the suit, features etc?

thanks in advance for any info!
:)Jim

From my limited experience of the prototype:

Flying position is similar to the S3 but the arm and leg wing area is increased so your arm and leg position is wider.

Arm pressure was comparable to S3. The increased forward speed is immediately noticeable and the suit also feels more sensitive than the S3.

The wings are bigger but I think you'll still be able to get the BOC no problems.

I always jump the leg pouch now - didn't like the look of it at first but after trying it I came to love it. No more wingsuit BOC for me, pouch works great for exits from 1100' to 30000'.

With the pouch I find I can extract the PC quicker whilst helping to maintain body symmetry and therefore improving canopy openings/ heading performance.

At first I was concerned about having 2 deployment systems but now it is 2nd nature to switch between freefall-BOC mode / wingsuit-pouch mode.

Robi did explain the suit features, the ones i remember:

-New suit material and special low friction leading edge material
-Re-designed arm and leg wings, substantially increased wing area.
-New wing profiles
-New arm wing construction method
-Mylar wing inserts
-... other important stuff that i've forgotten :P

I'm sure Robi will publish full details soon...

Long flights,

J

My guess is it will look exactly like this if not similar. Jari has said that the mylar inserts do make the pull a bit more tricky as the cells don't want to collapse completely.

hi,
f.y.i.

...once your wings are pressurized with air, the air stays there regardless of mylar supported ribs.

The pull might be more difficult on this FIRST prototype (what you offer on the pictures) but only because of the bigger wings.
