VX39 Wingsuit Project

With Luigi at the controls, the bed sheet sized VX-39 parachute has the performance to fly with Jeb in free fall at speeds in excess of 100 mph! Jeb and Luigi’s team-up is necessary to gauge the speed at which the wing-suit could potentially be landed without a parachute.

Well since they already stated that speeds are in excess of 100mph I think the answer to landing it without a chute is a no brainer IMO. All one has to do is look at the footage of Chris,Perry and myself flying with the XAOS 21-21 and when Jeffro cut it away to get an idea of how fast it gets. I think that someone has cast a hook, line and sinker out there to see who will bite on the landing bit. So who has the video they mentioned?;)

I never really was interested in the whole landing bit because, like most people on here, think that if it does ever happen, it won't be any time soon.

I was more interested in the results of the tests that they did...and I would love to see the video.;)

Luigi has been playing around with wingsuit relative canopy flying for least almost a year. Shortly before the VX-39 arrived he was tuning his skills on the VX-46 and some of the wingsuit guys he trusted to be in the air with him.

After a few days of initial test flights on the 39 Luigi, and other members of team extreme along with Tim Rigby and Jeb Corless got together for some "real" wingsuit ~canopy relative flying. They took time with canopy trim changes and adjusting weights for Luigi. I believe that they got some video and had a few docks.

Fast forward to now and I think the plan is to use one of those jumbotron camera equiped copters to get "spectacular" footage instead of relying on outside flyer helmet mounted video. It is hard to stay with the trio because of their skill as wingsuit pilots and the fact that Rigby and Corless were using S-4s. Even good S-3 flyers with the burden of a flat top pro tend to sink out. So you end up with a few seconds of nice video but nothing on the scale of spectacular.

I would be there now if I wasn't spectacularly stuck at work.:(

There are more than a few people out there who would have no problem whatsoever docking on Luigi under that 39. The fact of the matter, though, is that he doesn't want anyone near him in a suit with a camera because they are putting together stuff for another "for sale" video and/or TV spot and don't want other people releasing video of such stuff. I talked with him about doing some stuff at Rantoul and that's what came right out of his mouth. Luigi is a nice guy and a great canopy pilot, but he is simply protecting his livelihood. Having other video out there of him or other people doing this lessens the value. Any very-accomplished wingsuit pilots out there wanting to play with a similarly competent wingsuit pilot/pro swooper under canopy need only ask Jay Moledzki. He loves the stuff.
