Fledgling 0 #1 December 9, 2004 Firstly i would like to say hi to all you birds as i just recently joined your flock. Recently while jumping my S3 i noticed that my reserve handle had slipped inside the laced up cut away section of my wing. I noticed this early and so wasn't worried because if i needed it i could easily get to it by cutting away the wing. But if i hadn't noticed and needed it i definitly would have been surprised to find missing. I think it was because i laced the harness into the suit too high up the wing. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to prevent it from happening again?
bodypilot1 0 #2 December 9, 2004 Lacing the suit up correctly and getting a gear check before getting on the plane is something you should ALWAYS do. If you are standing up striaght with your wings out, there is no reason your handles should move through the lacing and into the wing area when in flight. Good thing you were aware of this before you needed your handles in an emergency situation. SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 December 9, 2004 I agree with Ed. With 280 jumps you are on the low end of the spectrum to be jumping a wingsuit anyway, so please be as careful as possible and make sure you are rigging your suit correctly. I have encountered more than one "experienced" wingsuit pilot who had been rigging their suit wrong on every single flight. The reason? They never got proper instruction in the first place. Seriously, I met a guy in Eloy two years ago who was a candidate in a BMI course I was teaching. This dude had his front wing cutaway cable literally wrapped completely around his main liftweb. He told me that he did it that way because the cable was too long and he didn't like it hanging out. I was flabbergasted; the guy had like 100 flights. notsane 0 #4 December 9, 2004 #3 in agreement. Get an experienced person to check the way you have your suit attached to your gear. Your handles should never, ever slip into your suit when properly rigged. Depending on the gear and the person you may skip the 3rd or 4th wing connector. It certainly sounds like your attachment is too high. Be careful. Be safe.
LouDiamond 1 #5 December 10, 2004 OK, I'll jump in too and say" what Ed and Chuck said" "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
