promoting wingsuit flying

Recommended Posts

Adjunct to previous thread................

The direction of wingsuiting...................

On a personal level, I have quit trying to entice whuffos into a skydive. Have any of you quit enticincing skydivers into a wingsuit jump?

I'm thinking that the display of excitment and fun shows more than any converstion can. Video to the gang can promote the fun! Any suggestions?

Might make a good poll...

Answer for me is no. People don't see me fly my wingsuit that often (mostly at boogies) but I find myself bringing it up at least once a weekend and usually bringing my suit out and at least hooking it up just in case the mood strikes...

Usually it just takes someone to see me come down and land with that big gigantic smile on my face and they're sold.:)
Plus, when low-timers like me share their own wingsuiting experiences, it takes a little bit of the intimidation factor away. Instead of having some guy with thousands of jumps tell you you're ready for the experience of your life you have an average joe like me encouraging you to try it out. I remember my 1st year in Eloy when I said I would NEVER jump a suit. The very next year I made my first flight... in fact, I was dying to hit my 200th in Eloy so I could do my first jump there. I figured Eloy was a great place for a first - lots of outs!:$

Anyways, I'm still w/in my first 3 years in the sport so everything's still pretty exciting. I still recruit whuffos actively at work and existing skydivers to try wingsuiting all the time!:)

Initially for the first few months after having a spare suit, I did approach certain people I thought would excell in a WS and asked if they wanted to try it.

In the early days most of our local flockers were not organized in co-ordinating flock days. Now we are better at this. We get approached more as a group because lurkers don't see it as a specialty thing but wonder if they have stumbled on a skills camp or specialty boogie. Better yet if they see one of us giving a FFC, then they form a line. Or at least ask a bunch of questions and start planning on their FFC.

I will never stop -
I have bought suits that don't fit just for demos and some that do fit just for friends my size.
I am the hook up in Texas until somebody else wants it. **Its hard to teach a FFC while your buddies go to flock out of the van - but soon the one I am teaching will either flock with me or take my place bringing up the next pilot - hopefully the same way.

I have loaned my suits out for weeks on end just to foster the next pilot - with hopes that he will start to attend our little get togethers and entice others to join us.

I love this shit

Yeah, about the time I stoped trying to be a safety consious, and profesional instructor amongst a load of yahoos with spare suits who perpetuate the myths "can't nuffin happen at 'tal....."

I let my enthusiasm that suround the sport flights I make, do the work. Damn few of those as of late with my suit having gone missing, but the new one should be here soon.

Uh, I haven't needed to do any enticing. Last year or so I go fly, fly so long people think I went in, then my canopy appears.
I come down howling with the grin you only get from playing where only gods and birdmen hang out.
People see what happened to me to cause a grin that big and say hey I wanna play too.
At first I was alone. Then there were a couple others. This year there will be more others. Alex you dirty russian this means you! Matt B, you too! And Danger! Ain't you sick of freeflying yet? Where's your suit? Carolyn! I been waiting to fly with you for half the season. Nik! Get out here dammit. I got to share some clouds with you remember? Night flocks this year.
Live and learn... or die, and teach by example.
