Beginner Suit

Recommended Posts

a GTI is a good beginners suit, but something to look at is what the other birdmen that you will be flying with are jumping. Some people will do 20 or 30 jumps on a borrowed GTI then order a Skyflyer 3 since the others that fly wingsuit at that DZ have Skyflyer 3's. It really is not advisible to jump right to the Skyflyer 3 without a stepping stone first.

Bird-mans classic 1 ( a bargain used but not in production) Classic2 and GTI are good beginer suits and so are the S-fly expert ( despite the name) manufactured by soloman or ?, check the fly your body web sources.

The matter 2 is also a good beginer suit with more performance than the ( older, out of production )matter one & crossbow, the still in production S-fly, all of which are of very similar design.

New on the horizon will be the new starter suit from Pheonix-fly. If Robert Pecknik says it will be a good starter suit then it will as he has designed most of the new wingsuits.

Some people who have experience with sugar glider, reffered to sometimes on here simply as the SG can comment on its suit-ability or not for first timers.

I had a look at the Sugar Glider this past weekend - and was offered a flight on it.

I declined. Dispite my 4500+ skydives, and over 100 Wingsuit jumps, I looked at the point my rig would go - and felt it wouls be buried in the middle of a Tennis court I'd be wearing.

Maybe it was the colours, but that suit is intimidating...:o If ever there was a need for a suit mounted PC - That's it.

by intimidating - do you mean you were scared[:/]?? well... from now on we're going to send out with each suit the cammo nappy that Cate designed ages ago for this particular problem ;)

(pronounced G - jii is the force that makes you fly!)

Jii-Wings - no strings!

Yes, I was scared. Jules has seen me scared before, on a trad climb up Table mountain just before a pitch that involved a traverse above an overhang, but fear rarely stops me from doing what I'm going to do.

I have an odd view on demos, derived largely from my experience with relationships. If I have something I'm happy with, I stick with it.
A demo will usually mean one of two things. Either you jump it and like it, and so become dissatisfied with what you have, or you jump it and don't like it, and so have missed an oportunity to enjoy what you have.

So, fear of death on the next jump? No. Fear of dissapointment? Yes.
Fear of impending debt? Yes.

I think the key to all this is knowing yourself and what you want. If there were a wingsuit with a vertical speed of 150 MPH, and a forward speed of 600 mph - that's what I would want. "Slower" doesn't float my boat. I want speed, and from what I've seen, heard, and read, the Sugarglider is not going to give me that. The Vampire/S3/S5 is the kind of suit I'm drawn to, and my next suit will be chosen along those lines in the same way my canopies are chosen for speed and not how long I can hang on the brakes for.

But that's just me.
